For the AU junkies...
Again, RL consumes me and I cannot do these myself but it seemed such a shame to leave them in my head. So *claps hands* I have a bunch of AU prompts, if you will, that are yours for the taking. If you've been in the mood to write modern M/A but can't decide on anything here's your chance. Perhaps you'd prefer a different historical setting for the boys (and girls)?
Take a dip in the plot bunny pool:
1* Arthur is a Rally driver. Merlin is the Pit-stop crew member he finds himself falling for (if you need info here is an ugly link on the pit-stop crew: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pit_stop ). I thought of this one because the sheer mad courage the driver's must have fits Arthur particularly well.
2* I admit this one may be one I'll do at a later date but I shall put it here in a vague sense: Arthur and Merlin as Victorian men. What you do with them is entirely up for grabs but the image of Merlin in a bowler hat with Arthur in a top hat would not leave me.
3* Merlin: Notorious if clumsy pirate. Arthur: The newly assigned Commodore sent by his father, the Governor, to capture said pirate. Instead he finds himself swept away in a life of danger and excitement. So which is better? An honest and decorated life as a Commodore or the thrilling and love-filled life of a pirate? There's only one way...oh, hang on. Been watching two much Harry Hill, sorry (chances are you're only going to understand that last bit if you watch Saturday night tv in GB).
4*The old favourite of the University setting. Would seem blasphemous not to include it amongst an AU list
5* Merlin is a writer/artist/actor who is finding his 'magic touch' is lacking. Cue Muse Arthur who inspires him but also infuriates him. Either way he provokes him to such levels of passion that the two remain drawn to each other (and then there was smexing!). I would say though that if you're going the artist root maybe you could have Arthur as an Art Director who originally turns Merlin's work away (obnoxiously of course), maybe leading Merlin to throw all his anger into his work which is AMAZING, get a show depicting all this anger at Arthur and then LE GASP Art Director Arthur comes to the show of the newest hottest artist in town. Cue frowning and much UST yelling :D
6* Hunith, due to whatever circumstances, has to move to Camelot not long after Merlin's birth so that Gaius can help take care of them. Let's say Merlin and Arthur have 2 years between them and what if Hunith gets the job as Arthur's nanny/nurse? Here we have Toddler Arthur meeting Baby Merlin and deciding (as toddlers are prone to) 'Mine'. What would Arthur have been like with Merlin there from, essentially, day one?
Again, I may return to these myself some day but the wonderful thing about prompts is that one idea can span so many different versions of that same idea! I would love to see what people would make from these and so I put it to you, the masses, to choice whether or not you want them.
