Title: Now I Believe In Miracles, And You're The Reason Why
Fandom: Merlin
Characters/Pairings: Merlin/Arthur
Genre: Fluff, romance
Rating: G? PG? Somewhere around there anyway
Words: 460-ish
Warnings: Implied mpreg, sappy fluff
Summary: Merlin sings to his and Arthur's newborn daughter while Arthur watches silently from the doorway
Disclaimer: I (unfortunately) do not own Merlin or Arthur, nor do I own the song used in this story.
Notes: I wrote this a while ago for this KMM prompt (yes, I'm deanonning on a fic and a prompt all in one... I'm odd like that) and the whole thing is the fault of my brain suddenly remembering the final episode of Reba season 1 in which Reba sings what has got to be one of the most beautiful lullabies (to me anyway) to her newborn granddaughter. Of course, I then decided there needed to be fic with Merlin singing to his own newborn daughter and... well... this happened.
Notes 2: Nothing is changed from the post on KMM, because I had it looked over by  a8c_sock  before posting it there. Thank you bb! :D All remaining mistakes are my own. Title taken from the song Angel's Lullaby by Reba McEntire.
Notes 3: jissai1988  drew some lovely, two-page, comic-style art pieces for this story! You can find them here.  :DD
Notes 4: thecheekydragon has also drawn a lovely art piece for this story! You can find it  here.  :DD

x-posted from my journal, will likely post elsewhere too, sorry to those of you who see this several times.

Merlin sat in the rocking chair Arthur had placed by the window. He used one foot to keep the chair in motion as he smiled down at the tiny bundle cradled in his arms. He could not believe she was finally here, that his magic had seen fit to gift him, and Arthur, with such a treasure. How could this perfect little angel belong to them? To Merlin?

She was born with a full head of soft, light coloured hair (Gaius said it would likely darken over the next few days), and her eyes, such a deep, clear sapphire blue… just like his own, but shaped like Arthur’s. She also had Arthur’s ears, which was a relief to both of her fathers, and Merlin’s full lips. He imagined that he’d need to magically remove the sex organs of every man and teenage boy in the kingdom when she got older… if Arthur didn’t get to them first that is. The thought made Merlin smile; he knew Arthur would never think anyone good enough for his baby girl.

Merlin traced a finger down her tiny cheek as he gently rocked them. He took a shaky breath and began to sing softly, his voice breaking as tears of pure joy slid down his face.

*******

Arthur stood in the doorway to his and Merlin’s chambers, breathless over the sight before him; Merlin, sitting in the rocking chair that had once been meant for Arthur’s mother to sit in while she rocked Arthur to sleep. He’d dug it out of storage and had it restored when he’d found out Merlin was pregnant.

The sight of Merlin sitting in the chair as he rocked their newborn daughter to sleep filled Arthur with warmth. It radiated through his entire body, starting with the centre of his chest. Then Merlin started singing, his voice hitching and cracking with emotion…

“Midnight moonlight shining through the curtain lace
Paints a perfect picture on your perfect face
One sweet angel sleeping in my arms
You are the promise I knew God would keep
You are the gift that makes my world complete

And you'll never know how much I love you
But I'll keep on telling you my whole life through
Now I believe in miracles, and you're the reason why
So dream on while I sing you my angel's lullaby.”

Arthur didn’t know what he’d done to deserve such blessings. He honestly didn’t know why Merlin put up with him sometimes, but he did know that he would do anything, be anything, for Merlin and their beautiful daughter.

No truer words had ever been spoken, or sung in this case; for Arthur now truly did believe in miracles, and this new family of his was the reason why.
