Gaius wished he had a cure for a broken heart. He had never felt something stab him so deep, as to watch Merlin cry himself to sleep every night.
Merlin, the son he had never had, was broken, crushed, beyond repair. He had poured his heart out, and he had been rejected. And here, now, was the result. A man who would not leave his bed, not to eat, not to drink. Not for anything.
He was a man waiting for his Prince to walk in the doorway and announce that he was wrong, and that he felt the same way.
His Prince never came.
And so Gaius had to sit, and watch as the life of his would be son drained away, knowing that any morning he could find him dead.
Because he didn’t have a cure for a broken heart.
