I'm currently working on a deck of Merlin tarot cards, with Merlin/Arthur undertones. I have nine of the Major Arcana cards finished, which can be found behind the cut. Comments/opinions/suggestions are very much appreciated.
WOW!!!! I LOVE THESE!! The interpretations/imags you've chosen are incredible - the image for the Tower is just stunning, and Temperance is ... wow, I would not have imagined it like that but yes, it works perfectly.
The Lovers are wonderful, too. <333 Although I do wish there was a picture from Gedref for that, because to me that whole set up is the Lovers.
The only one I'm having trouble with is using the cup of life for Justice, and that's just because I see that as such an emotionally laden symbol while I always interpret Justice as ... well, not objective, exactly, but more so than emotional. I'd love to hear your interpretation of the card.
I can't wait to see more of these! And I will for one will be begging you for HQ images because I'd love to make a deck from these. I am so impressed!
eta: Can't believe I forgot to comment on Death. WOW! That gave me chills!
Oh my gosh, thank you! I'm very glad you like them.
I was initially going to use a Gedref image for The Lovers, but the entire goblet scene is teeming with unrestrained symbolism, so I figured it would probably fit better somewhere else. This also is not the only Merlin deck I plan on doing, so I will probably use Gedref for The Lovers in one of the other decks.
Hm, I interpret Justice as Balance. Equality. The universe lets nothing come into being without something reaching an end. I viewed the Cup of Life as a general representation of that concept rather than an emotional construct. It is the perfect example of cause/effect and equal scales, so I was able to overlook the emotional response to it. Though, that is just my personal reaction.
I'm going to publish a HQ set after the tester set is all finished. I'm glad you like them enough to make them into a deck!
I know next to nothing about tarot cards, but what about Excalibur as justice? The inscription 'take me up/cast me away' also suggests some kind of balance.
Hm, I'm planning to use Gaius as The Magician for this deck. However, Gaius as The Tower is a good possibility for my future decks (I'm making another one after season two.)
Thank you! The Slash Dragon as the Hermit was just too tempting. My inner M/A shipper has been having a field day with this deck, so I'm sure there will be plenty of slashy overtones in the next few batches as well.
That is why I initially started making my own tarot decks. It's easier to understand when the cards are represented by something personally significant. I plan on writing a Merlin-oriented tarot guide to go along with the cards when the deck is finished, so if you'd still like to learn, that could be a good way to go about it. :D

So whilst these pictures are awesome, I can't tell more in context. Though I will tell you this - they make me want to learn about Tarot cards.
