rules.

courtesy.
No god-modding please. Don't have other characters that aren’t yours do things that their players would rather them not do without asking the player for permission first. Be respectful of your fellow players.

activity.
You have a life outside of the computer, but player activity is not just the only way to move along the storyline, it's the only way that any fun can be had and the RPG stays alive. Players need to update at least once every two weeks, whether it's through a journal entry or a thread, otherwise they'll be sent a warning. If the warning goes ignored, they'll be removed.
Real life does get in the way sometimes, so if you find yourself in need of a break, don't hesitate to take one. All we ask for is a post in the OOC community merlinsbra telling us how long you'll be away.

literacy.
Spelling and grammar should be as best as you can possibly be. Typos and whatnot are forgivable, but we need to be able to read and understand your posts. When making journal entries or replying to comments, please don't use actions, ie. (*kicks James*) and smiley faces (:D , :P, etc.).

ooc/ic.
What happens Out of Character should stay Out of Character, and vice versa. Character knowledge and Player knowledge are separate. No OOC drama, please. See the mod if a situation does arise and she'll do her best to fix the problem.

post formatting.
All journal entries to the character's journals are to remain in first person. All characters have magical journals, which means whatever they write in their journal will be accessible to the entire school to read and comment, unless you specify the post as private. Strikethroughs are treated as something actually crossed out. Generally this means it's unreadable.
merlinsknickers is the main community for third-person past-tense entries, which includes threads and owls. Please follow this format:

Who:
What:
When:
Where:
Rating: (g, pg, pg-13, r, nc-17)

(the scene follows behind a cut tag)

If you're sending an owl or leaving a note for a character, make a note of that in the subject line - Owl From Remus Lupin to Sirius Black - and put the contents of it behind a lj cut.

As of 19/05/2009, all entries on merlinsknickers and merlinsbra will be f-locked, as will all entries on character journals.

canon
This game is not incredibly strict on canon, but please try and keep the character(s) you play as close to canon as possible to some extent. Don't make them so ooc that everyone will want to stab their eyes out. It's true that there isn't much known about all these characters and so you're free to make them how you think they should be, but remember the clues and tidbits of information J.K. Rowling has already given us. Take those bit of information and expand them. Players who have characters that have none or very little background have the freedom to make their characters the way they want, but please do not make them Mary Sues or Gary Sues - everyone has their faults.

character limit
There's a character limit of 3 characters per person. Please wait a few weeks before creating a second character, just to make sure you can handle it. Exceptions will be made where seen fit (especially if there is a lack of characters). Try and vary the types of characters if possible (as in gender, house and year).
