I also find that when I stop exercising for a couple of days, I get all gloomy and down. Anything that can get your heart moving again will probably cheer you up, and then everything else can get back on track. The back thing is, though, quite a pain.
Historically speaking, no on the massage; the pain is from spinal nerve compression. Massage can help reduce tension in muscles, and there have been times that has helped.
Ice, heat and when it's ready for it (which it is now) walking. And a lot of patience. Those seem to be the effective treatments.
I'm finding that I have to have a Plan B for times when I am less physically active. Could be due to an injury, or just that I can't get to my normal exercise activity (machine broke, left the job with the gym onsite, whatever).
For me the "Plan B" is to cut further back on the carbs. I'm usually pretty low-carb but if I'm not exercising, I limit myself to one serving of carb-heavy food per day (as opposed to 2 or 3)
I think I would've been okay with a plan B if it didn't hit the same time as the SADs.
Luckily, being seasonal, it's temporary and I'm pretty sure I'm through that. This week has definitely picked up and I'm feeling better on nearly every front (except work stress, but that's its own thing, right?)
