Apologies for not posting this earlier...

Re the episode itself, well, I am losing the capacity for superlatives. These three opening episodes have been just... Well. You either know already, or you don't - and if you don't then you're probably not reading this!

I am always left wondering why some of the scenes are shot on location at Pierrefonds when they've replicated that space in the Cardiff studio. Like the hallway above the cloisters which was the corridor outside Uther's chambers in this episode; we've seen a lot of the studio replica in series 3, but this was the real one, complete with fabulous stonework arches. :D I'm happy to see it, but I just wonder *why* I'm seeing it, know what I mean?

Interesting point! I suppose it helps add variety, and the 'real' gargoyles and fabulous stonework provide a lot of visual interest. But, yes, I agree that there seemed no particular reason why that shouldn't have been a 'generic' corridor scene... Maybe they felt it was a significant enough scene to warrant the real thing? Or maybe other scenes require more dressing or extras, and therefore it's easier and more efficient to do it on a set? I'm not sure...

Something to ponder! And maybe if I ever get the chance to interview the locations manager, I'll be able to ask! :-)

Exactly! I'd love to know more about why they do what they do. It's a failing of mine. :D In the meantime, I'm tickled to see that corridor; it's so lovely.

And I do hope you get the chance to do that interview, that would probably be really interesting!

Gosh! Well, the reason I called it cheating is that a lot of the fun of this Locations thing is in the detective work. Between us, we have worked so much out on our own! And it is a real thrill when I manage to work something out myself without any help - Ivinghoe Beacon, for instance. I love the place anyway, but the fact I managed to work it out without any hints beyond Bradley happening to film a chalk lion on a hillside... well. It's a particularly magical location for me as a result ( ... )

I wonder if the Clearwell Caves people know where the hut was.

I'm sure they would... but I plan to leave that as Plan B! :-) I feel like I've already asked for enough help. :-D I'm hoping to go exploring next Sunday. ♥

Hi!
I think it would be cool when you go on the field trip to get photos and location (exact) of the tree where Merlin went to "pee" while he was transforming into the Old Merlin. It looked like it had a nice hollow you could sit in.
I remember a few of the older posts where you located and identified trees that were used in the series and I think this tree would be a great addition to the list and one to visit. Thanks for being on the spot to scout these locations out. You are wonderful. I totally agree with you about these episodes -very moving.
Ciao Bella,
Ave

Buon giorno, bella! You and I are of one mind. :-) I was thinking the same about that tree. In fact, it looks like the most interesting and attractive part of the entire location! :-D I will certainly do my very best for you - next Sunday if at all possible.

Thank you for your kind words. And I'm so glad you are loving these episodes, too!

Ciao! ♥
