The clueless traveller's guide to visiting Tintagel Castle

Having paid to get in we didn't buy the guidebook so I'm not going to pretend I know what I'm talking about but basically think of Tintagel Castle as a rather wonky figure 8 with one half on a little almost-an-island, and the other on the headland proper.  Alas the join is relatively close to sea level so there are steps, lots of steps.  Take ( Read more... )

Wow, my vertigo kicked in just looking at the pictures! Hahahaha. It does look wonderful though. Can't imagine I'd want to have been a peasant or servant there either having to trample up and downhill all the time. :x

There was much steepness. I spent quite a lot of time musing on how much trampling up and down you'd have had to do if you worked there.

Oh, lovely. I remember the village well. There was a little house there with wonky steps that was lovely but yes, it's so beautiful there. Very picturesque. I wish the boys would do another Arthurian road trip into England this time.

We didn't go to the Post Office (which is possibly the house you mean). Excellent excuse to go back again I thought!

It's years since I've been there but your pictures brought it back wonderfully. I remember the steps being very steep even when I was a lot younger, but it's worth it because the castle is so spectacular. Thanks so much for sharing the gorgeous photos :)
