Holy Grail?

I was just watching something about the Holy Grail on the History Channel and began thinking about this show. Do you think if/when the show gets to the point where Arthur is king the show will address their search for the Holy Grail? The show has deviated from the original stories a lot so far and I have to wonder if they'll even touch it. This is ( Read more... )

I kind of doubt they would- and if they did, it'd probably be called something different. Simply because the Holy Grail is kind of a Christian icon, and the show isn't really delving into religion, yet, I guess? But who knows, it's slotted for 5 seasons!

I didn't know they had signed on for five seasons! That's exciting. :D I kind of want them to, even if they change it to a less Christian cup and just something full of mystery and magic. But you're right, we'll just have to wait and see!

I don't think we'll get that far (Arthur being crowned is, to me, where this part of the retelling ends and a whole new chapter beings).
I'd like them to do it, if it came up (and given their lack of linear adherence to the timeline) alluding to the earlier, pre-christian concept of the Grail; a cauldron or stone with mystical powers.

I kind of want to see Arthur after being crowned and how his relationship with Merlin changes. As well as how Merlin changes as he becomes court sorcerer (if that is indeed what happens). I want them to do some sort of quest, whatever it is for. I dunno why, maybe cause Arthur going on a quest is such a huge part of the legend. We'll just have to wait and see!

I'm just imaging Arthur getting ready for his quest and yelling, "Merlin, did you pack my woolly underwear?"; and Merlin sighing and being all "I'm the Court Sorcerer now, I don't do you packing!"
(and when he looks hopefully at Gwen, his new wife, she reminds him that's she's no longer a servant either :) and poor Arthur has to do his own packing, leaving him without any thermals while they scout for the Grail!)

I'm pretty sure the Cup of Life, from series one, was supposed to be the Holy Grail (in some versions of the legend the grail isn't the cup of Christ, it's just a magical object, possibly pagan). So I'm guessing it will come up again.

I meant to mention that in my post. I hope that they don't just leave it with season one, if they are going to go with the Cup of Life as their Holy Grail.

Yeah, I never know if they're introducing something for later in the show itself, or if they're just doing it as a nudgenudge winkwink to the legends.

I feel like because the show is so different from the legends we know, they can't not "go all the way" because it would feel incomplete if they just ended the show with Arthur being crowned.
