Hey I haven't read the fic you were interested in, but on fanfic.com I ran into a fic of similar plot summary and I remembered your post :) https://m.fanfiction.net/s/11601936/1/Recruit. I am not sure if it's the right one but hopefully it'll still be an interesting one for you.

THAT'S IT!

(And hey, I remembered maybe 50% of the details correctly, lol.) It was called "His Recruit" on AO3, and the author's name was different, but it's the same story.
