I woke up thinking about a story I read a while back where Colin and Bradley changed places with Merlin and Arthur.  Each pair had to navigate a strange new world and deal with its challenges

Character Motivation by Lassiter (twoskeletons) is another great version of this theme, though sadly it's a permanent wip.

Would you happen to be able to share the name/link to the story you read that set you off on this search? I really enjoy this trope, too.

It's The Big Reveal by Anonymous. I think the characters are a bit OOC, but the story was interesting, and of course, stayed with me.

Walk With Me by Cookie has the canon characters going to modern times. I don't remember it very clearly but I remember that I liked it a lot!
