Of Friendship and TV Shows

1. Yesterday, I met thexpuzzler, and it was lovely. There were pollywogs, and strawberries, and stories about haunted houses, and she probably thinks now that I’m completely stupid because I totally failed at that Big Brain Academy Wii game thing she made me play.

2. On the train, I watched the Glee season finale. ( Possibly spoilerish )

my life, glee

I get that they wanted to wrap up storylines, but couldn’t they have laid the groundwork for that during the last couple of eps?

WORD! There was no emotional buildup to the final AT ALL. I will admit, I loved the covers and Don't Stop Believing made me sniffle but there wasn't any emotional connection for me.

I really want more Glee friendship fic! Them just hanging out and being dorky together. I really want some Mercedes&Kurt&Quinn fic after the finale.

Re: Castle! I would just start with the pilot. I haven't seen season 2 yet, but since there's just two seasons, I would start at the beginning. Episode 3 of season one has some AMAZING moments with Castle and his daughter, so I'd watch that too:D

Hehe, I just saw that you wrote something very similar about the Glee finale in your journal (hadn't read it before because I didn't want to be spoiled too much).
Rushing things so much seems even more stupid considering that the show got the okay for a second season very early. So there wasn't really a reason for doing that, other than that Ryan Murphy probably wanted to be done with a couple of things (Didn't he say at some point that he wanted to "get rid of the baby"? That's exactly what it felt like. Not that I ever cared much about the pregnancy plot line but still.)

Also, re: Castle: Thanks! I'll just DL the pilot then and see how it goes ...

PS. I love your icon!!! Where did you get that picture?

It really doesn't make any sense that he rushed things, since it was OBVIOUS after the first couple of episodes that they would at least get picked up for season 2. There was nothing really pulling the back 9 together like there was with the first 13. I think he wanted to do too much in such a small period of time. If he was going to pursue Finn/Rachel and Will/Emma so hard, there should've been more buildup to it. Poor Quinn - her storyline was nonexistent until it was dramatic enough for her to have her baby!

Castle: I loved it from the pilot! It's a solid pilot and it really does get better as the show goes on.

I didn't make the icon so IDK where the pic came from:X It was mde by come_daylight!

Re 2: Exactly! And it was the same with the baby! Quinn didn't even have a baby belly during most of the back 9, which is just ridiculous. I don't expect them to tell things with the realism of a documentary, but I would have prefered to see Quinn stuff herself with food or run to the bathroom once in a while instead of seeing her jump around during dance numbers like she was still captain of the cheerleaders.

I just feel like Ryan Murphy isn't going to continue any of these plots in season two and the best thing would have been to stretch them out and take his time making everything work instead of cramming everything into the B9. It wasn't very well done at all.It was almost as if he got tired of his own story lines very quickly and tried to get rid of them as fast as possible ... I never cared much about Finn/Rachel or the baby thing, but they were part of the show, and I would have prefered them to be resolved in a believable way ( ... )

weird red plastic jacket
It's totally made from the same red shower curtain. Nobody's gonna prove me otherwise. xDD

And yes, it was so very rushed. :/ Though I liked it overall nevertheless.

I think it’s kind of sad that the show keeps neglecting the friendship storylines in favor of the romantic entanglements.
This. <3 Absolutely. And I second the need for a long K&M friendship fic.

Oh my God yes, totally. Why didn't I think of that?!

It was my friend who pointed it out :D And I was like. OMG. YES IT IS. And now it's my personal canon. (We even thought of some backstories: like, maybe Finn made it from the remains of his dress as an apology? Though I doubt he can sew. I'm even writing a fic about how he can't. Maybe he asked Carole. And then he gave it to Kurt anonymously. Yeah, something like that. xD)

I enjoyed the second half of Glee, but not nearly as much as I did the first half, when I went through the eps on dvd so fast it made my head spin. I agree, there wasn't really much of a connection with the characters. When we got back and Finn and Rachel were already dating, and Quinn was supposedly with Puck, I was all, wtf?!!

As for Castle, I agree, start with the pilot. Then again, I'm one of those people who hates to start anything in the middle because I want to know what has happened right from the beginning. (Though I will say that I found the characters to be way more annoying -- they're supposed to be a LITTLE bit annoying, like trying to get on each other's nerves, but they got on mine *g* -- in the pilot than in future eps, so if you do as well, give them another chance.)

Exactly! I think they cut out a couple of scenes, because I saw a snippet of a scene where Puck and Quinn tell the Glee Club that they were dating. I guess when they decided that P&Q shouldn't be dating after all, they forgot that at least they should have told us how Quinn came to stay with Puck, after she had made it very clear in the Sectionals episode that she wanted to do this without him ... but yeah. That's not an excuse. Whenever I start to think about a tv show: "I really could have done this better," then it's usually really bad :)

Thanks for your opinion on Castle! I'm with you, I hate watching episodes in the wrong order or starting in the middle of a season - although I have caught myself watching scenes on youtube that everyone seems very excited about to see what the hype is about before I actually start watching the show!

Awesome, thanks. Actually, I love it when the writing is so tight that you just have to watch all the episodes to understand what the show is about. In my experience, that's usually a sign for excellent writing. So I'm going to check out the meta posts you linked me to, and then just start at the beginning ...
