 Chapter 5

Jung Yonghwa is late and he has nothing to blame but himself. What was he thinking of leaving his house at the dead of the night and stand in front of Seo Joohyun’s house for hours until it was already in the wee hours of the morning? When he could have just gone to sleep and talk (maybe) to her the next day? But no, impulsive him walked towards her house, bringing the blue box that she gave to him and waited as if he was waiting a miracle to happen.

“But it was indeed a miracle. Ha, I know her name now!” He childishly thought.

“Fool.” That’s what Jessica called him when he returned to his house that same morning when he had his first conversation with the girl by the window.

“Correction, its Seo Joohyun.” He grinned widely at his twin sister. His sister went ballistic when he told her why he was out all night and became more ballistic when he confessed that he talked to her. Obviously, Jessica still can’t forget what happened five years ago. It traumatized her but as Yonghwa has always told her, it has been five years. They should move on and it was their fault in the first place, they were unintentionally breaking someone else’s property. Unfortunately for them, it happens to be Seohyun’s mother whom they encountered.

“Why are you always defending that girl?!” Jessica looked at him incredulously. “Ah, of course! You have this silly crush on her since we’re like what, babies?”

Yonghwas opens his mouth to counter but Jessica cut him off.

“Don’t try denying it because you’re so obvious. Every time we play outside that girl’s house I always caught you sneaking a glance at her. Even Sooyoung notices it and I’m sure Jungshin knows your ridiculous infatuation over that….that girl!”

“I don’t stare and have a crush on her and I don’t talk about who I like to Jungshin because he has a big mouth.” He glared at his twin sister, his ears turning tomato red. Seriously, do twins read each others minds? He hates it whenever he argues with Jessica. She’s always right. ALL THE TIME.

“Yeah, right.” She scoffed while rolling her eyes. “Stop lying Yonghwa. I know when you’re bluffing. You’re ears are all red and you have this ugly scowl on your face. And I’m seeing it right now. You look hideous.”

Yonghwa scowled even more but Jessica continued to rattle on.

“And gosh, you’re mouth is hanging open whenever you gape at her. I won’t be surprised if a fly accidentally enters your mouth, thinking that it’s a tunnel or something. In other words, you look ridiculous.”

“It’s a natural reflex that your mouth opens when you look at something!” He spat.

“Oh, so you were really looking?”

Jessica raised her eyebrows, challenging him. God, he hates it when he’s caught, especially if it’s Jessica. It’s giving him a nasty head ache and he wants to ask his parents why in the world they created twins as their children. To be exact, why he has a brat for a twin sister? An icy fake blond brat named Jessica. But even though Jessica tortures the living daylights out of him, he still loves her. She is his twin and forever his baby sister. He will always protect her. But right now, he just wants to strangle her.

“Fine! I do have a crush on her. Happy?” He angrily admitted, frowning at her.

“Oppa,” Jessica spoke, her face etched with worry. “That girl is dangerous. Dangerous! I can feel it. Didn’t you see her mom? That woman is mad. What if that girl is just like her mother, crazy? I’m worried for you because I know you’re fascinated by her. And now you talked to her, knew her name. What if her mom caught you this morning at their house? Who knows what would have happened?

“But nothing happened!” Yonghwa walked towards her and draped his right arm over her shoulders. “Aigoo, woori Sica is worried for her Oppa. I’m shocked.” He joked.

“Of course, pabo! You’re my twin brother.” She hit him on the chest. “I would worry for you. So Oppa, stay away from that girl. Please?” She pleaded.

“I don’t want to see you in danger because of her. We almost died last time. The last thing that I would want to happen is seeing you with a butcher’s knife on your chest. All thanks to that girl’s crazy mother.”

Yonghwa stared at her and didn’t say anything. They were silent for a few minutes.

“Oppa, please?’ Jessica tried again.

“I can’t.”

He sighed. Jessica looked puzzled but stared silently at him, waiting for his explanation. He brought her to the chair beside his study table and made her sit there. He walked towards the window seat and took the blue guitar plopped beside it. He sat and strummed random notes. They were like this for a while. Yonghwa playing his guitar while Jessica stares at him, not disturbing. She knows her Oppa will give her an answer. He’s poring over it while he tinker his guitar. So she waited.

Finally, after 30 minutes Yonghwa looked up from his guitar and faced his sister.

“I’m going to see her tonight.”

Jessica blinked. She wants to retort badly. But she knows Yonghwa has an explanation so she remained silent and waited for him to continue.

“That girl…makes me curious.” Yonghwa started. “Why is she always by her window? Why doesn’t she come out of her house? Why?” He slightly smiled. “When her mother tried to hurt us, she stopped her. Why? What made her do that? We’re not her friends.”

He looked outside of his window.

“Her eyes…they’re so clear but you know what? They’re haunting too. I unintentionally held her hand today, and she got scared. Her eyes, full of fear, were staring at me. Why?”

He looked back at his twin sister.

“The gift. You know what’s inside it? My ball, the gold ball that Jungshin threw at her backyard! She kept it Sica. All these years, she kept it. Why would she do that? It’s just a mere ball. Plus, she knows my birthday!

Yonghwa laughed in disbelief while shaking his head. He looked outside his window again.

“That’s why I’m going to see her tonight.  My curiosity is eating me and now that I have a chance to talk to her, I’m going to grab it.”

“But Oppa-“

“She’s lonely. I could feel it. He paused.

And maybe I could ease her loneliness.” He added cheekily.

“Yuck, Oppa. You’re so full of yourself!" Jessica threw a pillow at him. He caught it with his left hand, still laugihing.

Jessica walked to her brother and held her pinky. “Promise me, after tonight you won’t see or talk to her again, okay?”

Yonghwa was silent. He can’t promise her that but nevertheless hooked his pinky with hers and smiled. Jessica beamed at him and went toward his door.

“But I’m still going to tell Mommy that you sneaked out last night!” And Jessica dashed towards the living room while screaming “Mommy! Mommy!”

“Why that brat!”

In the end, Yonghwa was not grounded. He charmed his ommoni by using his aegyo and his mother was floored. Jessica was acting like she was vomiting in the corner while watching him display per her term, his “horrendous” aegyo. So for his revenge, he told their mother that Jessica threw all the cucumbers inside the fridge that there mother was supposed to use on her face. He had the time of his life while he watched his mother chase his twin sister with a broomstick around the house.

Jessica had her revenge that night. She invited her girl friends; Sooyoung, Sunny, Yoona and Tiffany at her house for a sleepover. The girls were noisy and invaded the living room, gossiping about boys so Yonghwa can’t sneak out. He was pacing around his room for 2 hours already. He glanced at his watch. It’s already midninght.

“Would she still be waiting?”

Furious, he kicked his bed but accidentally crushed his big toe. He hopped comically around his room while trying to ease the pain.

“Aish, Jessica!” He muttered furiously. He hopped towards the window seat and sat. He looked outside the window and stared at the full moon.

“What now, Yonghwa? Think!”

As if on cue, an idea popped in his mind. Why haven’t he thought of it? He face palmed his self and immediately opened his window. He looked down. His room is located three feet above the ground so………..

“If you can’t use the door, use the window.”

He jumped.

Author's Note: The Jung twins are cute, right? I hope you won't dislike Jessica. She just loves her brother. Please comment. Battered writer here would be so happy. ^_^
