Chapter 15
“Why is the sky so much bluer? Why is the breeze so perfect today? Pretending like I don’t know. Like I didn’t hear a thing, like I erased it. Should we start talking about something else? Should we kiss so we can’t say anything? - Good Day by IU”
Part 1
Seo Joohyun fluttered her eyes open. The morning chill and light prompted her to wake from her peaceful slumber. Strange, with all the terrifying events that happened last night, she didn’t dream about it. It was a dreamless sleep last night. She rolled on the bed and stared at the ceiling. She’s quiet curious of Yonghwa’s room. It was a total opposite of her white spotless room. Yonghwa’s room was of dark blue color and fully decorated with trophies, posters and musical instruments. But what Seohyun liked the most was the ceiling. It was decorated with glittering gold stars. She fell asleep last night while staring at it.
She yawned again before sitting up on the bed. She looked on the clock placed on the bedside table, it’s already 7am. She left the bed when she noticed a few things placed at the foot of the bed. She approached it and surveyed the pile of clothes and toiletries on the bed.
She cautiously picked the bright pink oversized hoodie. The style was not the usual that she would wear but decided that they would be comfortable to wear with the navy blue pleated mini-skirt and long black tights. She looked down and saw a pair of white running shoes and pink ankle socks on the floor. Smiling because she has clothes for the day, she picked up the towel and basket of toiletries. She was about to leave the room when a small plastic pouch bag fell on the floor. Curious, she picked it up and opened it. She let out a soft shriek with what she saw. It was a pair of lady’s underwear, white and lace. She immediately felt mortified and sinful. She’s in a boy’s room and holding these types of things. She hurriedly hid the items inside the folded towel, picked the basket of toiletries and left the room.
She quietly walked down the hall towards the bathroom. Once inside, she made sure that the door was locked. Her eyes lit up to see a bathtub. She walked towards it and sat on its edge. She took a bubble bath soap from the basket and read the instructions carefully. She picked a bottle of shampoo and sniffed it. It smelled like fruits, like a watermelon. She opened the faucet to let the water flow and after a few minutes, she dropped the bubble bath soap into the tub. She stood and stripped off her sleeping garments. She carefully stepped inside the tub and lowered herself inside the growing bubbles. She had fun taking her bath as she played with a yellow duckie. She kept on giggling as she repeatedly made the toy duck squeak.
She shivered a little when she stepped out of the tub. She hurriedly grabbed the towel and patted herself dry. She looked for the bathrobe but got dismayed when she remembered that she left it on Yongwa’s bed. She picked the basket of toiletries and the pouch of underwear before tightly wrapping the towel around her body. She consciously poked her head outside the bathroom door, seeing that no one was walking the hallway, barefoot towards Yonghwa’s room.
She quickly opened the door and slammed it shut. She heaved a sigh of relief and turned around. She froze in her place by what she saw; a sleepy and yawning Yonghwa standing in front of her and wearing only his boxers.
Yonghwa was scratching his back when he heard the door slam. He turned his head and almost jumped out of his skin. Seo Joohyun was staring fearfully at him; her wet hair framed her face and to make the situation worse, Seohyun was only wearing a towel.
This is not good.
“You-you’re naked……” Yonghwa stuttered stupidly. “….almost.”
“AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Seohyun’s piercing scream echoed inside the house, it became worse when due to Seohyun’s panic, and she threw the pouch of undergarments on Yonghwa’s face. Yonghwa, who chose to be extra curious that day, he picked up the fallen innocent bag and removed its contents. His eyes almost popped out due to the materials he was holding; a pair of brassier and underwear.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!”
The realization of holding a woman’s undergarment made Yonghwa scream too. He and Seohyun just stared at each other and continued to scream. Jung Shinwoo and Jung Soomin came running down the hallway. Shinwoo kicked the door of Yonghwa’s room for it to open. Seohyun ran towards the corner of Yonghwa’s room and turned her back to hide her face, she still continued on screaming. Jessica came inside the room, her face covered in a face mask while carrying a baseball bat.
“Where’s that thief?” Jessica growled angrily.
Thinking quickly, Somin ran towards the bed and picked the white bathrobe that lay on top of it. She walked towards Seohyun and covered her body with the robe. Jessica rolled her eyes in irritation. So the person who put an end to her beauty sleep is the freak woman’s daughter. She glance at her twin brother who was also half-naked and holding something that she’s sure Yonghwa doesn’t want to be caught dead holding with, maybe.
“What the heck are you doing with those things, Oppa?”
Yonghwa quickly threw the pair of undergarment on the bed and covered his upper body with a pillow. Soomin wrapped a protective arm around Seohyun. Seohyun averted her eyes and won’t look at Yonghwa. Jessica shook her head and left the room while muttering “Idiots.” Yonghwa looked guiltily at his parents’ disappointed faces.
“Yonghwa, how could you stand and walk almost naked in front of a girl?” Soomin scolded her son, making Seohyun sit on the window seat and sat beside her.
“Son, we never taught you and your sister to display some indecency.” Shinwoo added sternly.
“But I didn’t do anything wrong!” Yonghwa tried to argue.
“You know very well that Joohyun is staying with us.”
“Okay, I forgot. Besides, yhis is my room Mom. I can also change here.”
“Jung Yonghwa, why are you still giving reasons there? You already know that you’re at fault.
Apologize to Seo Joohyun now.” Shinwoo ordered.
“Dad! I really didn’t mean to see her looking like…that or hold her bra-“
Seohyu shrieked again in embarrassment when Yonghwa mentioned about her undergarments.
“Jung Yonghwa!” Shinwoo shouted.
“Fine!” Yonghwa consented irritably. He looked at Seohyun but remembering that she’s not properly dressed, he quickly looked away.
“Seohyun, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to see you wearing only that. I’m really sorry.”
Yonghwa walked towards his cabinet, picked a towel and some change of clothes. He walked miserably out of his room.
“Where are you going?”
“Bathroom. Don’t worry, I’ll change there.”

Breakfast with the Jungs was a different experience for Seohyun. First, it’s her first time eating a meal together with a family. Second, she truly enjoyed the American breakfast Mrs. Jung prepared. It turned out that Mr. Jung lived in the States when he was younger and he can’t leave the house without eating his breakfast in American style. She also found out that Mr. Jung is a History teacher in Yonghwa’s school while his wife owned a boutique, which explained why Seohyun has clothes for today. She had some stocks left in the house and let Seohyun wear them.
After eating breakfast, Mr. and Mrs. Jung left the house to go to their respective work places. Although it was a weekend, Jung Soomin has to do some inventory while Jung Shinwoo has to attend a faculty meeting at school. Yonghwa told Seohyun to wait for him in his room as he was still talking to Jonghyun on the phone. She was sitting quietly on his bed when Jessica abruptly entered his room.
“Yonghwa, have you seen-----Oh, you’re here.”
Jessica cocked an eyebrow at Seohyun. She immediately turned around to leave when Seohyun called her.
“Jessica-sshi, wait please.”
With her hand on the door knob, Jessica turned her head and stared at Seohyun haughtily.
“What?”
Seohyun stood up from the bed and cautiously approached Jessica. Seohyun did her best not to show that she’s afraid of Jessica’s hostile and icy demeanor.
“I’m sorry if you’re having a difficult time while I’m staying here.” Seohyun apologized sincerely.
“Glad you know.” Jessica told her bluntly.
“Jessica-sshi….What can I do so that we can be friends?”
“Nothing. I don’t need your stupid friendship. Just stay away from my family.” Jessica said harshly.
“Why-why are you so angry with me? What did I do?”
“You want to know?” Jessica challenged her. “I still haven’t forgotten what your freak of a mother almost did to me, my brother and friends years ago. She almost killed us!”
“What does it have to do with me?” Seohyun asked tearfully.
“Of course! You’re the freak’s daughter. You’ll just hurt anyone who’s near you.”
“N-no……” Seohyun denied shakily.
“Really? Then why was my brother got involved in a fight last night? It’s because of you! You’re trouble!”
“I’m n-not….” Seohyun denied shakily.
“Bullshit! A stranger got stabbed because of you. My brother almost got jailed because of you. And now my parents think I’m an evil person because of you!” Jessica shouted.
“It’s not my fault.” Seohyun countered weakly.
“You’re a freak! Stay away from my family. I swear, if anyone of them got hurt because of you Seo Joohyun, I will hurt you.” Jessica threatened, pushing Seohyun to the floor.
It was at that moment that Yonghwa entered the room and saw his twin sister pushing Seohyun to the floor. He quickly ran to Seohyun’s side and helped her. He glared at Jessica in disbelief. He knew Jessica doesn’t like her but he did not expect his sister to do something extreme to show her indifference towards Seohyun.
“Sica? Why did you push her?”
“I don’t want her here Oppa. She’s going to harm our family.”
“No! Seohyun won’t do that. She needs our help. Mom and Dad will be disappointed with you.”
“Why is it all of you are so concerned with this freak girl?! She’s not part of our family.” Jessica exploded.
“Jesssica!” Yonghwa shouted at his sister.
Seohyun stood uncertainly between the two. She doesn’t want them to fight. She approached Yonghwa and held his arm.
“Please don’t fight with your sister.” She pleaded.
“Seohyun, can you wait for e outside? Jessica and I need to talk.” Yonghwa requested.
“But-“
“Please.”
Seohyun nodded and quietly left the room, not failing to notice the hateful glare Jessica threw at her. She wished that the two would reconcile after they talked. Yonghwa turned towards his sister and looked at her disappointedly.
“Jung Sooyeon, you’ve crossed the line.” Yonghwa spoke grimly.
“What now? That freak is more important to you than me, your sister Yonghwa?” Jessica demanded.
“Stop calling her freak! She’s different from her mother, okay?” Yonghwa insisted.
“How would you know? Wait, you didn’t stop seeing her after that night? You broke your promise to me and continued to meet her?”
Jessica’s suspicions were confirmed when Yonghwa didn’t answer and looked at her guiltily. She threw her hands in frustration and stomped towards the door.
“Jessica-“
“You know what?! Fuck you!” Jessica cursed at him. “I was just thinking for your own good but you chose to ignore my warnings. So screw you and that freak!”
“Sica, listen to me----“
Jessica marched towards her brother and pointed a finger on his chest, her nails digging on his clothes.
“No, you listen to me!” Seo Joohyun will hurt you.” Jessica warned. “Don’t try on making me like her cause I won’t.”
Jessica was at the door when she paused when Yonghwa spoke again. The words he uttered next brought a searing worry to her. She has distinct feeling her brother would admit it soon but admitting it would mean Yonghwa will have a harder time staying away from Seo Joohyun.
“Jessica….I think…I’m falling in love with her.” Yonghwa confessed.
Jessica tearfully looked at her brother, worry and dismay was written on her face.
“I love you Oppa that’s why I’m being hard on you. I’m only looking out for your own good.”
Jessica left a pensive Yonghwa in his room. He pulled his hair in frustration. He wanted to scream or hit something. Instead, he changed his clothes and picked his bag. He won’t let anything or anyone to ruin his date with Seohyun today.
For today, he’ll forget the impending problems and enjoy the day with Seo Joohyun.
