That's what I was thinking (since she said 'huge' which means it must be old) but seeing as how it's causing suffering right now, I hadn't been gonna say so...

Why can't you pee, Meri? Just don't flush the toilet. I hope it's an easy (and thus not expensive) fix.

Idle speculation, mostly. I mean, it seems like a poor decision was made somewhere. Either they laid the line much too close to the tree, which they should have known would grow, or they (tras)planted the tree on top of the line. Something, somewhere, went horribly wrong. BUM BUM BUUUUM

I think the tree has been there almost as long as all our houses (about 40 years). It probably started as a small decorative tree and just...got big. These days there are building ordinances that prohibit planting trees close to water lines, but who knows if they did that 40 years ago?
