On the west side of the city, a figure lay on the floor, one Ligeia Halkias, near where the bridges-- wall?-- began, seemingly asleep. At the sound of footsteps, he raised his head, before settling into a half-sitting position. Blinking slowly up at the foreigners, his mouth twisted into a lopsided smile. "Hey, you guys made it! Good to see you!"
Pushing himself up to fully sit on the ground, he looked up at the others in silence for several moments, his smile widening into a grin. "We've got a hospital here on this side that needs some fixing up. Problem is, we've got some materials stashed over on the east side, so we're gonna need someone to go get them. If you help us with that, we'll tell you more about what you wanna know. How's that sound

Oh, Alice recalled talking to this guy. Perhaps that's why she was slightly raising an eyebrow sceptically for a moment. But at the same time, when she thought about it.. completing some random task in exchange for information about the situation was something she was quite used to by now. Perhaps some things really didn't change, even across worlds.
For a moment she looked at the other people around, but then she nodded as if she had already made up her mind regardless. "I don't mind helping out in this case."
Random task for information? That...was basically Haseo's life in a nutshell. She gave a brief nod to the girl next to her before addressing Ligeia. "Sure, why not?"
Souji set his left hand at his hip and listened carefully. He was no stranger to people asking him to find and bring random objects, but the thought of repeating some of the same actions from the past year left a slightly sour taste in his mouth. Still, a hospital was an important thing to have in working order.

[A man - he really doesn't look much more than a boy, actually - stands there, munching on a pretzel stick. When he spots the foreigners, he grins and waves at them.]
Hey there! Over here!
[Once they get a little closer, he sticks the rest of the pretzel in his pocket.]
My name's Colby - Colby Nevin. It's great to see you guys, we could use a lot of help here. There's a hospital on the west side of town that needs to be repaired… but the materials are here on the east side. Could you guys give us a hand and gather them? Bring them back here, and we'll send 'em over to the other side, okay? It'd really help us out a lot.
[He claps his hands together at the last sentence, leaning forward earnestly.]
[B wasn't aware there was a meeting scheduled, but he happened to wander by anyway. The request is a curious one, though small in its curiosity in comparison with the city itself. B shuffles forward, nibbling at the tip of his thumb.]
How will you get the materials to the west side of the city? [There's a huge wall impeding traffic, after all.]
Raf has been hanging out near the centre of the city pretty much since he got here, so when he notices a group gathering he joins them in hopes of finding something out. He hears Colby's introduction, but it doesn't seem like there's much to say back to it, at least not immediately.
Raf looks at the person who asks the question, not so much like he knows more than anyone else. He knows that he really doesn't. But he does think he knows this, or at least the how of the answer, even if he's nowhere near knowing the why.
"I believe some people perceive and interact with things as if there were bridges where we perceive that wall."
Raf shrugs, he's not sure he likes the idea of restoring a hospital that he can't even get to, but his other plans are wandering randomly and talking to other people, and Tiri says that those are really poor plans. Not that Tiri's suggested any kind of alternative, but one is suggesting itself now, so Raf nods.
SECOND LEVEL - ON HOW LIA IS STUPID USELESS NOBODYbirdenesqueSeptember 17 2011, 04:48:05 UTC
And for all the commotion going on the first level, now you have a glimpse of a going-on on the second. To those on the east side, they might recognize the Crazy Bird Lady. Now without her following. Also tapping one of her boots in irritation, black hair wild and unkempt but entirely natural like it's always been that way.
To those from the west side, their first impression is of a girl dressed like an art school reject and mildly annoyed over everything. "Really!? This whole thing is just so he can get out of doing his own work, and get brownie points with his girlcrush! And he can't even give you useful information?!"
She gnaws on her lip a bit, those with good enough eyes spotting her incisors are just on the edge of dangerous, visibly debating something or other. Then... sigh. And back to perfect composure.
"I can do better than that! How about a freebie that's actually useful...? Liiiike moving stuff along this level, for one?"
While the other guy seemed to be rather useless, this one was a bit more interesting. It was safe to say he didn't care at all about the hospital or its plight, but learning more about the Second Level was far more relevant to his interests. He sidled up to the lady pleasantly, not trying to hide any sign of his approach.
Rebuilding the hospital was important, yes, of course it was. But at the same time... Surely, finding out more about the 'second level,' as the man had called it, would be useful too. MOMO had never before heard of anything quite like it, not even the UMN seemed to come close, and she couldn't deny she was curious. And if it could help them understand the city better...
That wasn't something she could simply pass up on. She'd simply have to find out what she could as quickly as she could, then go on to help with the reparation of the hospital.
"What do you mean?" she asked as she moved closer, somewhat surprised to see someone else she recognized nearby.
Kanaya has been going to each gathering of people she's seen around the city, intent on listening and learning as much as they were willing to share. This indication of a conflict of priorities was promising---if some didn't like the others, hopefully they would gossip and give more away.
"Wouldn't a hospital be a building to provide heath services to all of us? If some force of this city is so intent on abducting us here, it's to all our benefit to ensure it's livable."

We're all really glad you're here, I mean it.
