July 2007!

I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad about this. As I writer, I want more time to finish all the stories I have planned. As a fan, I want to know what's going to happen in the worst possible way. And I want canon closed. One way or another. I hate mysteries ( Read more... )

You know, I don't think I can really answer the question until I see how the fandom dynamic changes. I mean, I don't exist fannishly in a void; I write or read or whatever on my own, but in the final analysis, it's all about the community and if *that* changes too much (e.g., becomes cranky and unfun), then I'll have to leave the fandom whether I'm ready or not.

Yeah. I hadn't thought about it that way, but as much as I love reading and writing, hanging out is what keeps me here. That's even more scary than whether or not Snape dies.

This is interesting to me because it reflects what I've found to be a common position - that fandom is the reason for the fanfic, almost? (Correct me if I'm misunderstanding) Of course I think in terms of "will I keep writing the fanfic" more than anything else. To me, "being in fandom" equals "writing fanfic." That continues 'til I'm tired of writing it, whatever happens in the larger world of fandom. But I have learned to my astonishment that many many people in fandom don't write/create art/meta this way - that the fandom group dynamic is a dominant motivator.

So for the sake of you and those like you, I sure hope fandom doesn't go all cranky and negative. I'm sure pockets of it will (that always happens!), but I guess it's up to the sane folks to remain ... well, sane. :)

Finally getting back to this. I'm not sure I agree with your categories. To me, fandom is the people. Writing is writing. I write for myself and will continue to do so.

But the fandom part, the part that's social, that's important to me, too. I like interacting with fans online and in person, so it matters whether people are all emo and depressed about the book.

We'll always have AU :) Killing off Krycek didn't stop me from enjoying X Files fanfic though it did reduce my interest in canon. Maybe I'm running away from reality (goes off to explore the Nile)

I'm totally with you on river de-nile, but what Beth said about fandom is true, too. If everyone is unhappy and cranky it might stop being so much fun.

I'm not leaving fandom. That's what AU is for. *grin* I might have to rethink some of my pairings. But this past year I have branched out a bit from the Snarry, prolly getting myself ready for Snape's demise without realizing it.

I'm all about the AU, but if fandom starts to falter, then I might be forced to leave before I'm ready.

I don't want Snape to die. I don't want Snape to be evil - I really like the theme typically seen in fandom that Dumbledore ordered Snape to kill him & that it's all a way to get closer to Voldemort & kill him off once and for all.

I don't know what I'll do if she kills Snape off. I don't think she'll kill off Harry - but it would be a way to cut off the series at 7, which she's always maintained she would do.

In any case... I will have my favourite fanfics saved for later reading. =)

I agree. I don't want her to kill off anyone I love. Harry or Snape or anyone else. But I think she will. Maybe not Harry. But she wants this over and who knows what's going to happen.

At least now we know how long we have to wait... though I find it interesting that the 5th movie & the 7th book both come out in July...

That kind of gives me hope that it won't be too awful. They are releasing the book only 8 days after the movie. It will kill movie sales if the book is too bad.

Ha! If Snape does die, I fully plan on ignoring canon and living in denial. I like my Snarry way to much to ever forget about it! Same goes for Draco/Harry!

Heh. I do have a plan for an AU to bring Snape back. Whatever happens to him, I'm sure he could have set it up in advanced and could now be living in NYC as a Muggle. *g*
