1. Dear El Jay: this new topbar thing is bullshit. It's messing up my nice layout and is adding stupid social media features that I DNW and don't know how to remove.

1.b. Pursuant to the above: flisties, please continue to not link my stuff on Facebook or nonfannish places were I might be linked to my IRL name. You can help avoid awkward questions ( Read more... )

I have no social media functions on my nav bar. So there must be a turning off thing somewhere. Stupid lj.

Yay, bike riding! TB is currently going about with a bike that is down to one gear, has a held-together-by-hope brake cable and extra handlebars made from a garden implement. His life choices are weird.

Very glad to hear grad school is going well. Go, Meres! You are the awesome. AND. Because I am mostly faily HAPPY BIRTHDAY in advance. I hope it is a fab one.

There's a "Like" button for Facebook and other such fuckery. Not that you couldn't "share" posts already, but they don't need to tap into that unconscious "ooh, a Like button" reflex the whole internet is developing.

I don't mind all the links to the inbox and friendsoffriends etc. -- that's useful! -- but it's buggering up my layouts topbar and superimposing all stupid. >:(

... You should probably buy TB a new bike. My bike is ye olde bike I've had since middle school, but I used it really so seldom that it's in pretty awesome shape. I mean, the about 15-yo tires and tube held up just fine. Which is good because I lack funds for bike fixing.

2. Happy birthday to all my fellow May babies! Best time of year to be born, yes?

Same to you! Totally the best month to be born, yes.

And good luck with the biking!

The only bad thing is that it is also the exact time of year my allergies act up. I am a sneezy birthday girl. This also makes the bike trips... interesting. *rubs eyes*

Either they turned it off or I don't have the new top bar. If I don't have it, there must be a way to switch it off. But I didn't do anything since I switched to my current layout a year or so ago.

YAY! biking! I try to improve my fitness with my bike as well. I am up to about two hours by now. Not quite that hilly over here, though. But still. It is an archivement for me and I wish you good luck improving your biking stamina as well. :D

It seems to magically disappear sometimes. It doesn't work very well yet--broke other parts of the site, even.

Two hours of biking a a lot indeed! I might be able to make that given a lot of flat ground and breaks, haha. At the moment I'm comfortable for about 20 minutes at a good speed, and more makes me tired and noodly. Like I said: hills. But I'm not too disappointed with that, considering I have done zero biking in about 12 years and am sedentary anyway. I'm hoping to work up to an hour -- that seems like a good balance between a long ride and not taking up my whole evening. :)

Well, not counting traffic light and crossroad stops, I do not take breaks anymore. I started "practising" one and a half years ago, though. There were lots of breaks and only shorter distances and very noodley legs. Now I visit my brother or uncle. Then I take a break and have them feed me and then I ride home another almost 2 hours. But I really avoid hilly landscape. I would like to visit an LJ friend on the other side of Hannover, but to get there I have to either go a very long way around the hilly area or right through it. I am not fit enough for either just yet. Besides, it is ok if I sweat and smell up my family members' apartments, but people I only know from the internet deserve a slightly less sweaty and exhausted Roadie. ;)

I looked up "sedentary" and my dictionary tells me it means "sitting (sitzend)". Well, you can sit on your bike, you know. ;p

Though I am almost certain that that translation is not 100% and it means you don't like moving around or something?

"Sedentary" is the adjective to describe a lifestyle or person who does not exercise. If you sit most of the time and don't really do anything that can be classified a regular physical activity that might keep you fit. *g* That was me.

(You can sit on your bike, yes, but it is not a very comfortable perch! Better to ride it around, at least the scenery changes.)
