Guys, allow me to tell you about the AMAZEBALLS concert I went to last night. See, Hey Rosetta! are a St. John's band I heard for the first time when I got my hands on the long list for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize, and their second album Into Your Lungs was up for consideration. It was love. They just put out a new album, Seeds, that I bought the ( Read more... )

I've still got HOURS and HOURS until SPN, but, hey, I bought the Hey Rosette album the yesterday! For no obvious reason except that many many people and amazon kept telling me about it.

And then promptly forgot to sync my iPod, so I haven't listened to it yet, but SOON.

Oh, dear, I hope my giant text of exclamation didn't spoil you. Or, if it did, that you don't mind. :D?

And yay for Hey Rosetta! I hope you like them a lot because I want to pimp them to people a lot (oh my lord that sounds wrong when you're talking about a collection of real people and not, like, a show. heh) \music/

I fear no spoilers! Plus, I breezed right by, seeing mostly CAPSLOCK IS OF THE GOOD.

ALBUM! It's one of those that I have seen rec'd in enough places that I trust shall be GOOD. PLUS, I've got lots and lots of time to listen to things.

(I'm so used to band pimping at this point? There's SO MANY of these people I listen to just because they were a character in fanfic. One of which is playing a show IN MY HOUSE next month. I'm not sure I have a 4th wall anymore)

But the show is forgetting the legion of bereft fangirls that would show up to start the world's most bizarre shrine.

I really want this fic now.

And a cello! And a viola!

You can play a bunch of their stuff here (the stream that starts is the live radio, the list is just below). And I've posted Hr! before in my other "music" tagged posts? :D?

But yeah, in general I really like it when bands break out the violins. It adds a texture that I like. :D

I saw them once at the Verge Awards in '09 (I was on their guest list, from a FB offer) and it was super awesome. Most of the people were there to see Metric, so with HR! as openers in a little club it was really great. I remember they did "Tired Eyes", which was the only song missing for me in Thursday's set. I ALMOST saw them for free again in Burlington last June, but got ill right after the first song, and as a huge storm rolled up. So seeing this concert seemed way overdue.

I don't have the technical vocabulary to describe what it is precisely that captures me about their music. It's the whole thing, between Tim Baker's voice (and his writing) just being really appealing to me, the strings, and all the tempo changes and crescendos that are just so satisfying.

They're like your best friend's bandYes! I want to go hang with them on George Street and shoot the shit. They make me wish I had musical skills so I could jam with them. It's this whole kitchen music thing. They make me homesick for Newfoundland and I've only been there ( ... )
