See, "on accident" reads hell of awkward to me, but I keep seeing it, so I was curious! My cousins from south of Chatham say "on accident" so I wondered if it was some kind of regional thing (because that area of Ontario is a) total hoser-central and b) heavily influenced by Detroit Americanisms), but maybe not?

That house is crazy. On the real estate site there is a photo montage and the house is waaaay too nice and the view is just... *hands* They have many bedrooms! I could stay in one. :D

Well, my dad is a Detroit American so it is possible.

:D!

Aha! Perhaps that explains it.

I have never heard anyone say 'on accident'. If I've read it, I have assumed it was a typo.

If I didn't hear my cousins say it all the time I'd think it was a typo, too. It just catches my eye that way...

I suppose there's a certain logic - you did it on purpose vs you did it on accident - but it offends my delicate sensibilities ;-)

Right? It's maybe not the wrongest ever, but it's still hinky. This is why it is serious business.

This link says it's an age thing, not a regional thing.

Interesting! Now I'm trying to remember if my older relatives in that branch of the family say it at all... my grandparents don't, but the aunts and uncles are a toss-up.

I honestly don't think I say either of those. I go adverb, baby -- "accidentally".

Ah, that's definitely an option! Could solve all our problems, even! :D

I freaking can't STAND 'on accident'. It just pings me so wrong. It feels like baby talk to me so hearing adults use it or write it is just. Yeah. No.

(Sorry to those who use it, it's just one of those things, y'know?)

Cat, why must you be so intolerant? And mean! Mean to BABIES!

Heh, no, seriously, who says "on accident" except mrslaughtrack and hosers from Meres' family? Weirdos. (ILU, Sonia!)

Being mean to babies is my JOB! Oh, wait, no. That's not it, is it? *rechecks job description*

You can be sure that my kids are taught to say 'by accident', though. HA! Suck it, younger generation!

I say "on accident"!

Pretty sure I am older than all y'all, too.

(YES I ALSO SAY ALL Y'ALL, OKAY.)
