So, yay, but...

Balls. BALLS.

You guys, I'm sorry that so many of your peers are fucking asshats. (I mean, California, argh, but also FUCK YOU 57% of Arkansas. *gnarls*)

See, so are many of mine, so I know how that feels -- but rightly or wrongly, up here every damn thing doesn't go to popular vote.

Sometimes the majority is VERY VERY WRONG.

Keep fighting it.

my rage is both a wave and a particle!, do not want, argh, boourns, wtf, angry people on the internet, some people, politics

What gets me, Meres, is the same number of people in California voting against gay marriage, is the same number of people voting not to make doctors have to notify parents of a minor's request for an abortion. Both controversial propositions. How can they get something so wrong and yet something so right? I don't get it.

Totally different campaign dynamic, I guess. The Yes on Prop 8 asshats had a lot of money, and I don't know if Prop 4 got the same kind of coverage.

And that pregnant minor is straight (until proven guilty). *rolls eyes forever* If Sarah Palin taught us nothing, it's that teenage pregnancy can be swept under, but TEH GAYS, OH NOES. D:

I am heartbroken, but also not surprised. I am angry that this is being decided by popular vote. I do have some faith that time is going to take care of this issue....younger voters are completely reversed in percentages on this issue, and I do think eventually the courts are going to strike down the bans. It's going to be awhile, but it is going to happen, and likely faster than most people expect.

I can only hope so.

I don't know why constitutional rights should ever be put to ballot. I'd like to think the courts have a better understanding of what the hell in unconstitutional than, well, 52% of Californian voters.

Yeah, Arkansas is fucked but not as heartbreaking as California. Where, in the words of Rachel Maddow last night, they amended the constitution to take away an existing right that caused no one any observable harm. It definitely taints election day for me.

Oh well, one category of bigoted assholes at a time is the way I'm choosing to think about it.

They're all fucked. But yeah, the California thing is just... any yahoo with some cash can challenge peoples' MARRIAGE? Like, what are the criteria for such a thing? Just that it's banned now so ha ha? Fuck that very much.

Really, I think all you have to do is wait for a large enough group of bigoted old people to die already, and it's in. >.>

California's vote upsets me a little more since it doubly screwed over so many people.

I was just saying to unhurt that I can't understand how one can watch a couple that's been together for decades celebrate and get married as soon as it's suddenly legal for them and still say what they're doing is devaluing someone stranger's marriage. I also don't get the "I love my gay friends, I just don't want to see them married" mentality that was going on with so many of those vocal Prop 8 supporters.

I think I'm going to spend the day replaying Obama clips and the clip FourFour.com has up from For the Bible Tells Me So.

*editing to close those quotes and add the link for the video. second one on the page if you're interested. it has nice commentary about the bible not literally saying homosexuality is innately immoral.

I know! It's so sad. I mean, I'm just imagining how it would feel if tomorrow somebody told my cousins their marriage no longer counts, and it SUCKS. ;_;

That's because it's nonsensical. It's like justifying your unthinking racism (after someone pointed it out) with "but I have black friends!" WhatEVER.

Sigh.
