I don't know if people have noticed, but I haven't posted icons of late. I've made some, for challenges and the like, trying to force my muse back, but I haven't posted them. This is mostly due to my disillusionment/frustration with icontests, the icon community, and icon making in general. Well, I recently discovered a new challenge, and I'm ( Read more... )

Good Lord. These are almost impossible!

For luck/change/great fortune, maybe Lisa Fanning and the money, or with the poison for David? (Definitely grasping at more minor characters here. Heh.)

I am drawing a blank on the last two. (I can think of "looking toward the future" ones, but not ones involving hope/healing/peace/harmony. Oy.) If I think of something, I'll come back with a new comment.

Aren't they though? Give me 30 more angsty ones versus 3 happy ones for this show. I pushed it enough with the "healthy, new, fresh/gain, pleasure, success" one. *grin* I like the Lisa idea. I'm using one of the "baddies" for one of them, so she isn't any more minor than that. If you want to mention your "looking toward the future" ones in case I get desperate, I'd appreciate it. For "harmony" I was sort of thinking about when they had that truce with Red Cell, causing Madeline to go swap with their second-in-command, but I couldn't come up with an actual image for that, and it isn't a well defined idea yet.

Looking toward the future (without all the peaceful happy stuff) could certainly be Nikita at the very end of Season 5. Another version could be Jerome the psychic kiddie from Section 4 -- he represents the future of the organization in a way. Again, though, this future is pretty bleak.

If I can get the picture for it, I'm planning on using Nikita at the end of Season 5 for "stops resisting, sees the world differently; sacrifice of a belief or perspective or wish, a dream, hope, money, time, or even selfhood."

I thought about using the clones of Nikita and/or Birkoff to represent the future, but I hadn't thought about Jerome. Hmmm... (And, honestly? I think no matter what I pick for these it's going to have to be at least a little bit bleak, because this is just not a happy show.) Jerome could be interesting. I'll have to see if I have a picture of him.

Thanks for your input.

For the first one, though of course it was also fraught, how about Michael's first sight of Nikita in Hard Landing? She saved his life (luck, good fortune), and it changed lots of things, and, if only temporarily, it brought great joy to both of them.

Looking to the future with hope and healing? I'm not sure anyone would get it, but how about a shot of Michael's one visit to spy on his sister and her family? They looked happy, healed, and harmonious.....

Moderation. Now that is hard. But if you took the second half, blending opposites, achieving synthesis - well, hmm. How close together were Nikita and Paul standing when he said, "you're one of us now."

I always thought of that from Nikita's perspective. It was rather lucky from Michael's perspective, wasn't it? And I think the aftermath might be as close to great joy as possible in Section. I'll have to see if I can find pictures that might work for that.

Ooh. I'm planning on putting short explanations for all of these, and that could definitely work. I'll (again) have to check out my pictures. The best thing is that it is an ep I have on a DVD, so if there is a good shot, I could definitely cap it. (Unlike the darn seasons 4 & 5 stuff. I wish I could figure out my DVD recorder to burn my videotapes. *sigh*)

Which episode was that? I remember the scene, but I cannot for the life of me remember which ep it was.

Thanks for your help! I knew that others would have much better ideas for this than I did.

Ok. I won't lose my post this time. Damn you, LJ!

This is mostly due to my disillusionment/frustration with icontests, the icon community, and icon making in general.
Hey, just as long as you remember to make them for yourself first, and *have fun*

1. A change that brings great joy? In LFN? Zuh? *g* Ooh, how about Paul in Last Night when Madeline finally accepts his advances? (Even if the joy lasts only until Adrian's Garden, LOL). And as stated above, Michael & Nikita in Hard Landing as well. Prior to the last scene. *g*

2. "blending opposites, achieving synthesis". I think nell65 has it right with Ops/Nikita - what about their last scene in I Remember Paris? Didn't he apologize?

3. Ok, this is too hard. LOL. I definitely agree with J's choice of Lisa and the poison.

2.

That's part of the problem; I haven't wanted to make them for myself. For a myriad of reasons I just wasn't caring as much about it as I used to. I'm all excited over this, though, so hopefully that's done with.

1. I suppose as long as the joy can be fleeting, I suppose! Although I think the Michael/Nikita one is more about "luck" (at least from Michael's viewpoint) than the Madeline/Ops one, which is more about calculation. The "luck" part was almost as big a problem for me as the "great joy" part. Everything in Section is always so planned and controlled.

2. Do you know which episode it was that he said "You're one of us now"? Hmm... I might have it in my list of quotes; I should go check that out. He did apologize at the end of "I Remember Paris" but I'm not sure about the context and whether that would count. DVDs, here I come! *grin*

3. I think jaybee65 was talking about using Lisa and the poison for the "luck leading to joy" one, not this one ( ... )

Not sure of the exact ep, but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in S1.

Aha! I found it. In "Voices" there is this exchange...

Madeline: It’s not him you’re upset about. It’s you. You’re finding out something about yourself I’d suspected for quite some time.
Nikita: Really? And what’s that?
Madeline: You’re one of us.
Nikita: I’ll never be one of you.

But the one with Operations saying "You're one of us now" occurs in "Off-Profile". Now I just need to see if there is a good pic for that.

Again, thanks for your help.
