I should be used to this by now

I'm fairly used to weird dreams. By all accounts they usually make sense shortly after I wake up. It's after a couple of hours that it strikes just how genuinely WEIRD they are.

So my husband and I have gotten series 5 of the new Doctor Who from Netflix and have been gleefully working our way though the episodes. Matt Smith is a adorkable, and ( Read more... )

So, when is the crossover fic coming out?

Probably never. As hilarious as it would be to have the Doctor suddenly showing up in the Slayers 'verse, I'm not entirely sure I could make it work.

I'm not familiar with slayers, so I wouldn't know.

Slayers is probably best described as Dungeons & Dragons on crack. I've heard that it follows a lot of the story elements from D&D, with its own twists and turns. The whole thing is up on Hulu if you want to watch it (at least the TV series - and I'm fairly certain that Netflix has most of the movies, OVAs and specials).

I don't know if it's really your kind of show - it's shonen fantasy with a female protagonist. It's hilarious (or at least I find it so), but again it all comes down to a matter of personal taste.

That would make an awesome fanfic. You should write it!!!

But, I've been having really weird dreams lately as well ... to the point that Mike's been asking me what I'm eating before I go to bed.

I really need to watch more of series 5, but I haven't gotten past the second episode. A lot of it has to do with Amy. I loved her in the first episode, but the second episode nearly made me throw something at the TV. The third episode was originally written for Ten and Donna and you can tell that in a huge way. Then, having been spoiled for other episodes, I just kind of want to throw something at the TV again.

I miss Donna. :( And Rose.

My biggest issue is figuring out how to make it all work together. I can see something as insidious as the Weeping Angels in the Slayers-verse and something like the Giga Slave working against them.

I also had issues with the second episode of s.5 because it felt like a contrived coincidence that Amy was the one who saved the day. I really, really don't want her to turn into s.2 Rose, who was almost like a God Mode Sue who could do no wrong and was the one who was going to save the day when the Doctor fell short. I want her to mess up and make mistakes (and by make mistakes not save the world because she was ultimately right in the end). I want to see her utterly broken by something beyond her (and the Doctor's) control.

I adored Martha and Donna, though Donna would have to be my hands down favorite. I liked Rose in season one, but I felt they derailed her in season two. I'm still on the fence about Amy. She could possibly redeem herself in later episodes. We'll see

While there was a good bit that I didn't like about season 2, I did like it when Rose saved the day - just like Martha and Donna eventually did. Donna is my hands-down favorite as well. She was just beyond awesome, and I still want to throw stuff at the whole memory wipe thing. She didn't have to go that way.

But, that was my problem with Amy. With Rose, Donna and Martha, you see them all not quite getting it right the first few times. As they grew as characters, they grew into the types of companions that could save the Doctor when he needed it. Martha walked the world and Donna was just... DONNA. Yet, here comes Amy and in her second episode, she not only saves the world but suddenly gets everything about the Doctor. Hell, Rose never knew he was even from Gallifrey and he loved her. It's kind of grating and makes me see Amy as more of a Donna 2.0, but I'd rather have the original. Can you imagine Eleven and Donna ( ... )

What I love is that at some point the companion is the one with the skills that will ultimately save the day - be it because they have the means of finding the crucial information necessary or because they are determinators to the extreme - but as I said about Amy, they give her the ability to save the day in right off the bat in season 5, where Rose, Martha and Donna all had a few episodes where they got into the groove of being a companion and working on their own. (I love that Martha kicks ass and takes names during the Family of Blood arc. She's stuck in the past, with a human Doctor, and she's the one who has to keep everything from falling apart, which she does but you can see that it's emotionally taxing for her ( ... )
