Blitza Application

Character: Blitza Aleshipper Airflyer

Abilities: Blitza is an amazing Engineer. Though in his world technology is very ‘steam-punk’ Blitza has been known to create unique gadgets that can accomplish the most difficult of tasks. The years he’s spent working in the lab have also given him a hardened skin, able to resist the heat of the forges he works around and, for a short time, open flames. Because of his background Blitza also has the ability to turn just about any scrap into material for his inventions, even trash and rubbish. Although he prefers to take days, weeks, sometimes even months to build his inventions, Blitza can cobble together a rough design of the invention, that will function just fine, but only for a short time before it collapses under the strain of it’s own use.

Flaws/weaknesses: Blitza is a physically weak creature, even compare to other goblins. Often prone to minor illnesses Blitza has trouble carrying more equipment than a few pounds before he starts to breathe heavily from exertion. Because of his poor physical strength, Blitza is a coward at heart. Like most cowards he puts himself in positions of power, and uses that power, and the power of others to accomplish his objectives. If it looks likely that there will be a confrontation in which he cannot hide behind something else, Blitza will have trouble making decisions and often act irrationally. Motivated by Greed, Blitza can often be enticed into making poor decisions if the money is right. Though he prides himself on his ‘clear head’ when it comes to business matters, he often takes jobs that are to difficult or dangerous for his crew, because the money that was offered was irresistible.

Although Blitza is a very talented engineer, he is plagued by horrible luck. If Blitza is working on a project there are two possible outcomes. Either he will succeed amazingly, creating exactly what was asked for, or something will go horribly awry. Often these mishaps result in explosions, things breaking, and, more often than not, Blitza becoming unconscious.

History/background:Blitza was born into a very large, but very low class Goblin family. The Aleshipper family is the lowest of the low in Goblin society, working in the transport industry. They do their job well, but it doesn’t pay at all, and the family owes many debts to several of the Goblin Merchant Princes (Goblin ruling class). Blitza spent his youth malnourished and overworked, and often beaten for his inability to perform tasks, because of his weak body. When he grew old enough, Blitza left his family, running away from home at the age of 16 and hasn’t looked back since.

The next several years passed very slowly for Blitza, as he struggled to make ends meet. Taking odd jobs at shops he was able to make enough to survive, but Blitza did not maintain his jobs very long, either because he was unable to complete the tasks given to him, or because he found himself reminded of his past life. After nearly 5 years of working odd jobs, Blitza big break happened. Because he was in the right place at the right time, Blitza was hired to work as menial labor on one of the transport Zeppelins. The job itself wasn’t great, but during his time onboard Blitza was able to listen to the engineers talk about the ship, and how it was run. Late one evening, while most of the ship was asleep, the ship malfunctioned, and Blitza was able to use the knowledge that he had overheard to keep the malfunction from causing serious harm until one of the engineers showed up.

For the next 10 years Blitza served as an apprentice under the Engineers of the airship, and was treated fairly well, though he was still occasionally beaten for his inability to perform the more physical tasks. After he completed his Apprenticeship Blitza left the ship he was on, and stepped out to make his own name. The time he’d spent on the ship had given him a chance to think about what he wanted in life and he decided, he wanted, more than anything, to be one of the Merchant Princes that had caused him so much trouble in his youth. With that much money and power he would never be beaten for his physical inabilities, and people would treat him with respect, instead of as a creature that is less than dirt.

Blitza knew he would need seed money to start a venture, and he knew that it would be hard to come by. He found a company that was more than willing to rent out to him an older Zeppelin, with the option of buying, but the cost of gold was quite high. Luckily Blitza met Thorin, a Dwarf that had fallen on hard times of his own. Not above skirting the law, Thorin and Blitza made a deal. They’d get the money, and buy the Zeppelin, then split any profits that they made, 50/50. After several weeks of planning, Thorin and Blitza managed to rob one of the local banks, using explosives as distractions and Thorin’s skills to get in and out without being detected. Before the next day was over Thorin and Blitza owned their own Zeppelin.

For the next 20 years Thorin and Blitza performed odd jobs of Transport and Delivery with the Zeppelin, usually finding their clients with the less savory aspect of society that didn’t want to pay for the rates, or suffer the scrutiny, of the already existent Zeppelin transport system. During this time they picked up more individuals, each with skills that added to the business and increased the profits, though many of them had other goals. Blitza had just gained enough money to purchase a second Zeppelin, expanding his industry from a private practice into a full scale business when he was pulled into the City.

Personality: Blitza is a fairly outgoing person, willing t o talk with anyone and is generally friendly. Primarily motivated by greed, when Blitza isn’t actively being hired to pursue an activity, he’s trying to find someone to hire him. Not to picky about who he allies himself with, Blitza often makes friends with people that he probably shouldn’t, and accepts jobs that he definitely shouldn’t. Though money is important to him, once Blitza accepts a job, he will complete it, following the letter of the contract exactly. This isn’t because Blitza has any qualms about breaking his word from a moral standpoint, but because Blitza knows good business, and getting the job done, exactly as asked, is the image that he wants his future company to have.

Normally Blitza is very level-headed, making decisions based on carefully weighed choices, and ensuring, as much as possible, that the rewards outweigh the risks, but there are some things that can penetrate the cold calculating mind of his. The most notable is calling him by his real name. Blitza is ashamed of his upbringing and has been spending his entire life trying to erase the years he spent toiling in menial labor from his mind. Calling him Aleshipper will get you glares at first, but continued taunting of him by his real name will get him angry, causing him to make rash decisions. A less obvious form of his anger is when someone attempts to sabotage his business practices. Unlike calling him by his real name, this anger is not a blinding rage, but a seething fury, which doesn’t cause him to act in a dangerous manner, but will cause him to devote serious resources to ruining whoever messed with his business.

Blitza is also mildly racist. Not in any really meaningful way, but like all Goblins, Blitza knows that Goblins are inherently smarter than everyone else, just like Tauren and Orcs are stronger, Elves are better at magic, and Humans just stick their noses into everything.

Background setting: [the setting your character came from before PC] Blitza is from a tabletop role-playing game set in the World of Warcraft. The setting is slightly different from the one use in the online role-playing game, however, as in this timeline, due to an earlier campaign, the Forsaken (‘good’ undead) are no longer allied with the Horde, and are treated as outcasts and monsters wherever they go. The Blood Elves have been working to fight against the Scourge in the North, and the Naga have remained mostly hidden, keeping to their own civilizations under the water. If more information is needed, let me know and I’ll provide it.

Physical description: Blitza is about 3 feet tall, short for a Goblin, with a pale green skin, long pointy nose and a very prominent bone structure. What little hair grows on his head is short, and often singed from the explosions that he causes.

Sample RP: Blitza stood on his ship and watched the cargo being loaded. This was quite a nice job, simple transport, no time limit, and it was only 3 boxes. The pay had been more than he’d expected, and the crew would have no clue that he was skimming off the top. Not that they weren’t being paid adequately, but they wouldn’t have to pay for repairs on the Zeppelin if something were to happen, and they weren’t expected to pay for any damages caused while the ship was in port.

Blitz grinned, at least, that’s what he’d say if anyone caught him. After this job his private stash would be large enough for him to purchase a second Zeppelin and hire a crew to run steady cargo routes. Then the money would begin to come in regularly and he’d be able to stop doing the hard work himself and let others handle it.

He wouldn’t miss the ‘adventure’ quite the opposite. Unlike Thorin he didn’t enjoy the possibility of things going wrong. Speaking of which, he’d better go and make sure that the human didn’t mess things up again. Last time he’d loaded cargo without supervision, he’d spilled the contents all over the deck. Repairs had been expensive, and even with the Human paying for part of it, the cost had set him back nearly 3 months.

The Human worked for very little pay though, and so Blitza kept him around, ‘helping’ him search for his long lost sister, or wife…something along those lines. Blitza walked down to the hold, smiling slightly as he went, tossing a bag of coins in one hand, and listening to the sweet music of the metal jingle.

RP Sample 2
Blitza flew the damaged zeppelin back to the town. That contract had been a disaster. First Maevin, stupid human that he was, had refused to leave the Zeppelin. Then when it had broken down he'd attempted to pilot the Zeppelin while Blitza was repairing it. Nevermind that he knew next to nothing about the Zeppelin the moron had nearly chopped his arm off by starting up the engines.

Luckily that had been avoided, but then the Paladin had flown the Zeppelin directly through the territory of a full grown dragon. Beldin was able to complete the contract, except the person that Beldin was supposed to deliver the message to had been a necromancer with orders to kill the person delivering the message. Thankfully the dragon that Meavin had attracted hated undead and Blitza was able to lead the dragon to the undead army. Now they had to find the bastard that had broken Contract with Blitza. He would have to pay.

”A monster! There’s a monster coming! It ate Samuel, and took out the guard’s post to the east!”

Blitza grinned for a moment, but quickly hid the expression. Samuel had been the guard who hired him for that disastrous delivery mission ... seems he just got what was coming to him, breaking Contract would find you in the end. The town, of course, reacted different to the message, and was currently in the throes of utter panic. Maevin conveniently chose that moment to deliver a speech to the citizens, a speech rambling on about how they would be safe, and the light would protect them.

Blitza wasn’t paying that much attention though, his mind whirring over options and consequences. A monster that could easily decimate the city guard was a force to be reckoned with, and from the description, Blitza had no doubt it was one of the Scourge’s Abominations. Such a beast would tear through this small hamlet so easily, it wasn’t worth mentioning. At this point, the question wasn’t should they run away, but how. Already the mists which surrounded said creature were beginning to permeate the village.

When Maevin returned, Blitza was about to speak up, when the human glared at him, and spoke faster. ”We’re staying, and fighting with the guards.” Blitza stood silent, struck dumb with surprise. Prior to this, the human had quietly accepted orders, and caused few problems.

Blitza turned to look at Thorin, who was nodding in agreement, ”Aye laddie, we fight.” He caught Blitza's gaze, ”We all fight.”

Blitza sighed, and mentally shuffled through his options again. He could still get away, but that would mean leaving Thorin, and the others, behind. Twenty years is a long time to know someone, and Thorin was the first real friend Blitza ever had. The thought of losing the dwarf pained him, so he would stay…unless it looked like the town had no hope of winning the fight. He liked Thorin, but he liked himself, and his ship, more.vv
