SPN in German

So.... a couple of days ago I thought to myself "Why hasn't Supernatural premiered in Germany yet?". But then I found out that it HAS, just on pay-TV (the channel's actually called Premiere). Of course I got really curious what Sam and Dean's voices would sound like in the German version, and what better way to find out than to go to the internet's ( Read more... )

Oh gosh, that's bad. Not the worst dubbing I've ever heard, but still. Especially Sam's voice! And the person they got to do Amy Acker's bothered me too. I agree with you on Dean... Not terrible, but it's just not DEAN! Alas.

Also, it's been a while since I saw this episode but I think that one bit with the music was different, which might imply that they weren't able to get soundtrack rights and had to change some or all of the music, which is AWFUL. ...I'm a huge soundtrack snob and can't stand it when they do that. (For example, I had to buy additional DVDs of this one show I already owned and a region-free DVD player to watch them on just because the music had all been changed. Ugggh.)

OMG, no! Haha, that's really bad. I mean Sam's voice is kinda okay. But Dean's...WTF. I planned on watching the dubbed version, but now I don't know if I can. I'd be bitching every single episode about how in the original they said something different, it sounded better and stuff.
Well, the original season 1 titles weren't that great either. But I bet while S2's original titles are great the German ones will still suck. Like German CSI ep titles: Over 50% start with 'The' or 'A' and at least once a season they use 'death'. Death of Dominatrix, Death in Miami, Death of a Clown, Death in the Desert! Death of a Translater, muhahaha!
OMG, you're going to see A Few Good Men?

Yeah, I'm not sure if I can watch the dubbed version when it airs on Pro7 (I assume that channel has the rights for Supernatural after Premiere's done with it).

Dude, I thought I'd told I'd be going to see A Few Good Men! I know it's completely crazy, but I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to see Jensen act live and on stage. :D I SO CANNOT WAIT! I have tickets for the performances on Friday and Saturday and I've already found roommates for the hotel suite (which is not even a mile away from the theater).
Hey, if you wanna come along, there's still tickets. ;)

I've actually "gotten" myself the entire season in German and given it to my parents so that I am not alone anymore, hee. You have seen no horror yet, if you have not heard John's voice *shudders* He has the voice of a 25 year old yuppie...

The translation does leave out some jokes, but that's only natural because many things are just impossible to translate without the linguistic background. I do believe it is a rather good translation most of the time, although the voices are a huge put-off. Still, we won't get anything else and we still have to make sure people watch, so I chose to go with the flow and accept what they've come up with.

Now I'm really curious, where'd you buy the German DVD? How expensive was it? Are there any special features on it, like bloopers, episode commentary or stuff like that?

Haha, too bad audio evidence of John's German voice can't be found on youtube, I'd watch it just for the OMG factor.

I've thought about buying the British DVDs, they're so pretty:

I don't have the DVD, I have... files. If you know what I mean :-P you might wanna check out torrent.to... Hee.

I had a hard time accepting Denny's German voice and let's face it, I still haven't, hee, but this is far worse. I just hope once Jeffrey appears on all these movies he'll get a voice and they stick with it. I watched Sliders two weeks ago on Kabel 1 with Jeffrey as guest star and the voice was aweful, really, really bad. I hate it.

I won't buy the English ones, I don't like to spend money on a season twice. I already have all season 2 episodes on tivo (the Swiss version) as it airs in a channel we get (itv2, uk channel) so I don't need the DVD's that desperately. Also, the American ones always have far better stuff, if you ask me.
