That's one of the more intelligent things I've seen from Jobs in a while. It's good to see the CEO of a major company lay out the issues so clearly without being insulting or derogatory to either side of the debate.
There is a lot of content that could be made available today without DRM - and Apple could start to feature this on the iTunes store. If that content is successful, the big four would likely be much more convinced than Steve telling them to jump in head-first.
Also - what about movies? Steve has a sizeable amount of influence on Pixar and Disney. If Bug's Life, Toy Story, Cinderella, and all the ABC TV shows were put up DRM-free on iTunes - he would really be making a powerful statement.
