New Year's Resolutions

I'm not a big fan of New Year's Resolutions, for reasons that are discussed lucidly elsewhere. But I do find it valuable to periodically take stock of my life and think about it in a longer-term way than is common in daily life. I have also made a positive decision not to start tweeting (rather than dithering, as I was). It's exactly the sort of thing that would suck me in and distract me from work even worse than LJ.

re food - offspring sometimes objects to getting smaller portions than me / other adults, & one of my solutions with e.g. soup is to use small bowls for both of us and and give both of us tiny portions, and then I have seconds and thirds and fourths etc :-)

Luckily, they don't seem to mind getting smaller portions than us. They do, however, mind getting smaller portions of cereal in the morning, it turns out. 'That's not enough!' they declare. Haven't found a work-around for that one, although I hope keeping explaining why we don't want to waste so much food will have a gradual effect.
