Are you sexually active? It almost sounds like you were pregnant and had a miscarriage.

I am sexually active but have had sex only once (Jan 23rd) in the last 3-4 months. I'm trying to figure out my periods prior to the 23rd to see where I was in my cycle and what week patch I was on. I had a miscarriage about 9 years ago and didn't experience the cramping or extremely heavy bleeding that I did this time. When I miscarried before, I did see a lot of clots which from what I saw this time, there were none or very few.

The dr I saw yesterday did a pregnancy test which came back negative. Would it have come up positive even if I had a miscarriage since the pregnancy hormones would still be in my blood? Or would it be after a week the hormones significantly decrease?

So many questions and concerns and still feel like I have no answers or any possibilities as to what might have happened. I think it might be time to find a new ob since this was the second "not so great" experience I had.

There's nothing wrong with seeking a second opinion, but I think the doctor was being appropriately conservative in not doing an ultrasound given that it only happened one time. I understand your concern given your family history, and you could certainly insist on an ultrasound if you wanted, but I don't think one heavy period is really indicative of one thing or another. If it happens again, you might want to get an ultrasound before you switch birth control methods. There are lots of reasons for heavy periods that don't involve your fertility.

Thanks for your input! I really hope that it was a fluke and nothing other than that. I can't help but think that I was preg and miscarried but given the dates when I apply the patch and the date that I had sex, it just doesn't add up. I will hope that next months isn't bad!

There's no real reason to think that you were pregnant unless your patch partially came off or something. Were you sick or on a new medication this month? Were you stressed out? Was anything different at all that you can think of? Maybe you started a new diet or exercise routine?
