Skim/Read http://kuradi8.livejournal.com/ for helpful hints. No, you don't need to twist the cup. And no, you won't HEAR the pop. Also follow the link to the Virgins Guide to Cups for more helpful hints.

Try a little bit of Anbesol or Orajel (the baby teething stuff) around the entrance just before removal if it's too painful. You probably have bits of hymen in the way (and still could even if you are not a virgin--not clear from your post). Whatever gel you use just make sure it doesn't contain any petrolatum or "-icones" which may degrade the silicone. It took months before the hymen bits were completely gone for me, and even so, I need to use lube with "glossy" silicone cups because that finish just sticks to my skin like none other. Coconut oil is a great natural lube and no one will wonder why it's in your shower since it has so many other uses ;) I've also been using monoi oil (mixed with coconut oil) with success, particularly in the winter when the coconut oil solidifies and is useless.

As a virgin, I can't reach in to twist the cup either. That part isn't actually necessary.

I don't HEAR the pop... but I can feel it. When you feel it pop like that, it basically means it's fully opened. That part is pretty important.
