People using the cup longer than me might be able to be more helpful...I've only been using it for 3+ months. But I'll say what I can.
-how long had you left your cup in before you removed it and noticed the smell? It seems like leaving it in longer than 12 hours can cause a smell
-although I don't have personal experience with this, I've heard from other cup users that using antibacterial soap on your cup can actually cause a foul smell.
-before using the cup had you ever had a similar color discharge?

Thanks for responding! And to answer your questions, no, I've never had a weird discharge like that before using the cup, and I only left the cup in for around 11 hours. The weird smell was also there before I used the soap to clean it (normally I just rinse the cup off and then re-insert it) so if you have any other leads or thoughts that you think could've caused this, I'll greatly appreciate it!

Caused by the cup? I doubt it.
What should you do? Tell your mother. Then decide if you need medical attention.

Thanks for responding! And well, I'm still not sure whether its caused by the cup or not, but I've gotten a little better since throwing up yesterday, and my mother thinks that it isn't the cup but is because of something that I might've eaten. However, she says that it may possibly be an infection caused by the cup, so if you do think something like that may have happened, I'll be extremely grateful.

Thanks for your response! I don't think this was caused by the cup, but again, I don't know if I clean it off properly enough, since I usually just rinse it off with some water before using it again. There doesn't seem to be a smell coming from my vagina, so I am unsure of what it actually is, and my mother doesn't deem it necessary to go to the doctors so right now she's just making me eat healthier and drink more water in hopes that it'll just go away on its own.

I've been just rinsing my cup since I started using it a year ago and it works fine! What you need to realise is, sillicone is nonporous. If you're rinsing thoroughly there are very few things in or on the cup that aren't getting washed down the drain! :)

As for the weird smelly substance, I have a question. What part of your period? I sometimes get orangy-yellow stuff on light days or at night. I think it's regular cervical/vaginal fluids mixed with a small amount of blood. The smell was probably caused by the amount of time you left your cup in. A lot of people say 12 hours is the maximum time you can leave your cup in, but everyone's body works a little differently. You may have to empty your cup a bit sooner in the future.

Hey i just started with mentrual cups and i know exactly what tou mean. Maybe some have become used to it but this is definitely a smell ive never smelled... Makes me want to throw up but then i thought about it... A tampax we use... Pull out and add a new... So we dont spend much time on smelling and analyzing... Im a smeller so i have to smell everything that comes out of my body. A 2hrs tampax vs a 12 hour cup use... Its odd... Really odd... I don't think you're sick.
