First-time cup woes

First off, really excited that this community exists! The discussion and resources here are what convinced me to try out menstrual cups, and even though I'm having trouble right now, I'm hoping that they'll end up being a permanent part of my life.

I read kuradi8's wonderful post, of course, as well as cup reviews here & on Amazon, fold tutorials ( Read more... )

Play around with folds some more: I use use the pinch down fold I have to put the pointed bit to the right. It also takes my cup (not a lunette) 5-20 minutes to pop open all the way, (moving around will help this along) once that happens most of your other issues should go away.

If your small Lunette and its long stem disappeared way up there, then the Sckoon is shorter and might be even harder to reach. A longer-bodied cup like the Diva might help -- but it has a short stem and with the stem, your Lunette is longer.

Read the good advice under the removal tags and work on your technique. I think you'll be able to figure out a way that won't cause the discomfort you're experiencing.

If you're finding the Lunette too short (and that may depend on the day--your cervix likely moves around during your period) I'd highly recommend the Si-Bell, which is super-soft yet "poppy," or if you can wait for the shipping and want to save some $, the Chinese iCare. (I just bought one for my World Trade Cervix lol)

If the insertion is painful, you could try a little lube, and also to make it easier to get a finger in. Lube is a great household remedy. :D

ETA: Waterbased lube, preferably. (As to not damage the silicone.)

Thanks everyone for the advice- I'll stick with it and hopefully a little practice will resolve most of my issues. Waiting till next month, though, since I am STILL sore!
