First Use Boiling

I just purchased a Lunette Model 1 and it arrived today. Yay! I want to take it on a dry run before my period in a couple of days but I've got a problem... The instructions say to boil it before first using, but I'm in college and don't have the ability to boil water in my room. I've got a microwave, but that's it. Can I use it after just cleaning

Also you can use the microwave in your room like the Yukki cup recommends. I checked and wikiHow says

"It may be easier to boil your menstrual cup by putting it in a Pyrex jug, pouring water boiled by a kettle over it and replacing this water a few times. You don't run the risk of melting by sticking to a metal pot this way."

If you don't have a kettle you can boil the water in the microwave for 90-120 seconds instead before pouring it over your cup. I think they say Pyrex as it won't break under boiling water and temperatures such as in the microwave but any sturdy microwaveable mug would probably do the trick :)

They recommend doing this at the end of each period or at the start of the next one, with soap and water inbetween. I hope this helps!

Put cup in mug full of hot water. Put mug in microwave. Microwave until sufficiently boiled (three minutes on high in my microwave; YMMV with different wattages).

I've been doing this every couple of months for the last ... five? years and my cup has not dissolved or in any other way fallen apart.

Another option is to use rubbing alcohol. I usually rinse my cup really well between uses, and clean it with a cotton ball and alcohol after each cycle.

I don't bother boiling unless I am about to resell my cup. Rubbing alcohol works for me (and hydrogen peroxide if a cup is getting stained and I just want it to look pretty again). But make sure all the alcohol is rinsed off before you reinsert--otherwise--ouchie! :o
