I honestly wouldn't worry about making it last longer, as it will only last about six months opened anyway. That said, you're stain treating, not sterilizing, so you could dilute it to half strength, try it, and then increase the strength until it works.

thanks for your answer :) I did not realize it only lasts 6 months when opened

I always soak mine in a diluted mixture. It's roughly half water, and half hydrogen peroxide; works like a charm.

And my hydrogen peroxide seems to work fine well after six months. Weird.

It doesn't immediately stop working, but it gradually denatures. (It basically turns to water, it's unstable in the long term.) It depends on how you keep it, but the general guideline is after six months, you'll want a new bottle for any disinfection use, and it will be unpredictable after that.

Out of curiosity, is peroxide expensive in other countries or something?? Around here I can get a much bigger bottle for about $1 US. I didn't know that it could expire, thanks!

Yes, basically. In the UK at least it's more expensive and sold in smaller bottles, and you have to get it from the chemist, it's not out on the shelves. I don't know why.

Ha. It's available in nearly every US store that sells simple first aid supplies. I just bought a quart (.9L) for less than a US-dollar today. I wonder why it's so expensive and so hard to get in other countries.
