Putting cup into yogurt to get rid of yeast

Ok, so sometimes I use my Divacup when I'm not exactly on my period because I have really odd bleeding patterns. (Don't ask) I've never had a yeast infection before but the other day after using it twice, I took it out and saw the cottage cheese like discharge. At first I didn't know what it was, but then after looking up my symptoms, I figured it ( Read more... )

When I had a YI I just did what I always did to clean my cup. I washed it with soap and hot water and then rubbed it down with isopropyl alcohol. I'd think the alcohol would kill any left over yeast.

I would boil it. I'm not sure that just yogurt would kill everything.

Yogurt works in the vag by outcompeting enough of the yeast that your body can kill the rest. It's easier to just kill the yeast bacteria via boiling, but you can't boil your vagina(ah! horrifying mental images!)like you can a cup.

I guess I was the exception. I had a yeast infection two cycles in a row. The first time, I just washed the cup very well and then boiled for a long time. But it came back the next cycle. So, I soaked it in hydrogen peroxide. That did the trick. I suggest that.

You could use your cup, but it might be better if you got one of those cheap baby syringes from a drug store (the kind for measuring medicine) and used that instead. I'm pretty sure that would get the yogurt more evenly distributed than a cup, and you wouldn't have to worry about ruining anything.

Ok, wow, that's what I get for reading questions at 2 am. I thought you were going to put yogurt in your cup and insert it to get rid of the infection. If you're not prone to yeast infections, boiling or rubbing alcohol should be plenty to keep the infection from coming back.
