Gender neutral language - why do we care?

I don't have any extra advice to give, but, as a transmasculine non-binary identifying dude-like person, that you do it at all means a lot.

Actually, some of us women aren't too fond of the term 'ladies', either.

For the record, I'd just like to make it clear that this post is not specifically about the word 'ladies', it's about watching our language in general.

'Ladies' happens to be the most common way we see gendered language here, but it's not the only one. People also say things like 'hi girls!' or 'thanks to all you wonderful women' too. And we occasionally get people using that icon saying 'REAL women wear cups', which is problematic on many levels. All that stuff is equally not okay.

Also, not that either of your comments were inappropriate, but I'd just like to say that I dislike the word 'ladies' too (except when used ironically :)), but as a cis woman, that word does not exclude me from a community. And that is specifically what we are trying to avoid, rather than terms people 'dislike'. Even when those people are the mods :)

For the record, I quite like using "lady" for myself and my partner. ;) But that's me!
