I put my dingy Lunette into a 50/50 peroxide/water mix and intended to keep an eye on it, only leaving it as long as it needed. I ended up forgetting about it for like 6 hours, and it was perfectly fine, and just as beautiful as the day she arrived!
I'm really interested in this topic. I boiled the cup for 3 min yesterday. But it is lightly stained, so I just soaked it in a water peroxide mix. I'll leave it for an hour or so, to see what happens...
Also has anyone used denture tablets? Those fizzy ones?
I saw mention on one cup website (can't remember which one) of using baby bottle sterilising tablets...though I don't know if that'd help with stains as much as just sterilisation.
i was wondering the same thing about the denture tablets...but decided not to ask :P just in case people thought it was weird...but i clean my gold jewelry with the denture tablets overnight, i thought maybe it was too corrosive, because it makes all my jewelery sparkle insanely!
But only because it ended up boiling dry and caught on fire!
My Mooncup (and the DivaCup when I didn't forget about it) get anywhere between 1 and 15 minutes boiling, I don't really time it that accurately), and neither suffered for it.
OMG! You forgot about it, didn't you? When my sis was a baby my dad forgot he was sterilizing her silicon baby bottle nipples, and the next morning out kitchen was full of ashes coming out from the kettle he was boiling them... Ugly... I use a timer for boiling stuff because I forget about them too.
The most annoying thing was, my b/f noticed it boiling away while I was playing a computer game, but he figured I remembered it was there and didn't mention it to me! So when I went into the kitchen a bit later it was full of ashes. Luckily the only thing permanently damaged was the cup.
I have only used my Divacup for 6 cycles, and I boil(ed) it for 10 minutes at the end of each cycle. I only use water to wash it while in use. So that's about an hour of being boiled. There's a crack in the top of my cup!! I posted about it awhile ago, but I've decided not to contact the company. I'll use it until it starts leaking or something, and then look into another brand - and not boil it anymore!
Actually, after reading the other comments, I think I'll send them an e-mail about it and see what they say. 6 uses is awfully short to see deterioration, isn't it?
Yeah, and I wouldn't mention boiling for 10 minutes. Just say "a few". I've had mine for 2 years and boil at the beginning of each cycle as well as a peroxide soak every few cycles, and my cup is fine. I've also poked like hell at a lot of the holes, so if anyone's cup should be breaking down, it's mine.

Yes! I need this answered too! I have a mooncup UK which is silicone and my last two cycles, my cup has had a weird smell after I clean it...like mucus? (honestly I really don't know how to describe it) and this time (I just cleaned it) it seemed like there was build up in the cup or like the silicone was deteriorating. Generally what I do is soak it in a water/hydrogen peroxide mix for a day, then do boiling water. Is hydrogen peroxide the problem? If I stop that, will my cup be okay?
