Author's Notes: Written for maffieg's birthday.  Very, very different than just about anything else I have written.

I lay here on the ground, years of dust nearly completely covering me. It has been too long since I have felt human touch, though I know on occasion people pass through. It is not their fault they ignore me because they do not see me.
The floor beneath me shakes, signaling a person approaching. "...mastered fire long ago." I am familiar with this voice. Often, she comes alone. When she goes further inside the cave, I can hear her beautiful melodic voice singing to her people who have died by the Wraith. Other times I hear her praying for guidance to the Ancestors to lead her people.

"Guess so!" This voice, I do not know. It is masculine and strong. I wonder why she has taken him here. She has revealed this place to only a very few people. And no one since the passing of her father.

Perhaps the stranger will find me, I think. I muster all of my strength, attempting to make myself more visible. To my surprise, unlike countless others, he notices me almost immediately. It is as if I have been waiting for him to find me.

Slowly, he picks me up. It feels odd not to have solid ground beneath me; the feel of skin is foreign. He holds me gingerly and I relish the feel of his skin. It has been so long since I have felt such a wonderful sensation.

Perhaps it is because it has been so long since another human has held me, but I feel a power flowing through me that seems new. I feel stronger, as if there was a part of me that was dominant, but not any longer.

As he inspects me, I do the same of him. He is different from the others from here, his clothes are unfamiliar and his hair is much shorter than the other men, but his friendly face puts me at ease. "What's this?" he asks my owner.

I watch her turn around and hear her take a sudden breath. She is delighted to see me!

"I lost this years ago. How did you...?" She looks at him with amazement, impressed he had managed to find something she could not.

"It was just lying over there. It was reflecting off the light," he answered. Either he had no idea how important I am or he is a modest man. It could be both, I suppose.

Suddenly, he is taking a step forward, holding me out to her. Instead of placing me in her hands, he reaches around her neck and fastens me to her neck. I feel her breathing increase and her skin heat up. She is enjoying this nearly as much as I am.

To my surprise, he doesn’t pull away when he hooks the clasp. Instead, his hands hover over me until they reach my pendant. It is almost as if he is fighting the urge to touch me again.

I feel my owner’s soft, shaky breath as he moves his fingers away when the drawings on the wall distract him. She lifts her hand to touch me. It feels much different than his did. Her hand is smooth, while his was rough and calloused.

I look at him from my place. Already he has won me over. I know it won’t be long until my owner follows suit.
