I like reading about the writing process, because I haven't tried writing fiction since high school and I wouldn't know where to start. I just inhale fanfic, and regard the authors with gratitude and awe!
Personally I like having the backstory kept vague, because it's not the point of the story. And I really don't like darkfic, especially not evil!Sam, so I'm glad that you didn't go into detail.
Thanks for reading! If you ever do want to try writing, just dive right in and go for it! Write for yourself, never anybody else. (Like this whole thing? CLEARLY I'm writing it for myself, hahaha.) :D
Oh hey, just found this. Neat! I love seeing peoples steps to a finished story; the twists and turns are so much fun.
So, in comments someone mentioned catching references in your work to things. One thing was "Emmerson". The poet? I'm not too familiar, but I'm interested in seeing where he ties in with this. I've read some fics that insert poetry/literature/history with a sledgehammer, and I didn't feel that at all in this fic. If it's not too much of a silly question, can you tip me off to what of his work ties in?
Eee! Well hello there. Umm, I'm not going to say I'm stalking you, only interested. You seem sweet and interesting, and ... well, I'm sorta kinda looking for sweet and interesting people in the Supernatural fandom, 'cause my flist is primarily Veronica Mars and I need some people to squee Supernatural with!
I have emmense struggles getting what is trapped in my head onto paper. I have countless stories that I did get down, only to find myself not happy with it at all, and just as many half written stories, cuz they petered out. All HP related.
I only just last week posted my first thing ever on LJ, a Sam/Dean piece, and I have never written them before. It came out of left field and hit me hard and fast. Also first thing I have ever solely typed directly. Everything else has been hand-written. I wonder if that is maybe the problem...
Anywoo - I have digressed and just verbally vomited all over here. My last thought, is, why the hell can no one come up with some software where I can just "think" my thoughts directly into MS Word?!?
It's difficult to put thoughts into words, always. I mean, you're taking an image from your head, and then you have to explain it. You have to decide on how much detail to use, keep your prose from becoming too purple, decide if you use real adjectives or metaphors. Finding the voice you are most comfortable in takes YEARS of practice.
Sometimes, I think people are their own worst critics. No one is good at anything right away, and if you're expecting yourself to be the most amazing writer ever, of course you're going to fall short. I wish I could just churn out the next great American novel and retire to a cabin in the woods and write angry letters to the New York Times every year or two.
But alas, not today.
I like word vomit too, apparently :D *runs off to read your SPN-fic*

That used to be my dream too, write great books and live in seclusion, just me and the 5 trillion pets I would accumulate.
