Title: Steadfast Rating: PG? Who: Sho/Nino Summary: AU based on "The Steadfast Tin Soldier." Nino loves Sho like burning. Notes: Originally for the shoneenclub Halloween contest.
I still love this piece. I know that the end of the original Tin Soldier story had them both melting, and that would have been...Well, wholly depressing. I enjoyed the melancholy of this piece but moreso I adore the resolution. The fact that the dancer noticed Nino had been gone and had felt his loss from the theater as much as Nino had felt remorse was incredibly touching.
I also loved how this story wasn't really magical. It was clearly so heavily influenced by the fairytale, but you did something I have an avid, passionate love for: you took the fantastic tale and wrapped it around literal representations. Nino "soldiering on", Sho was an actual dancer, the entire situation of their separation, the playhouse catching on fire. All of it just...so brilliant.
And the very end, with the kiss and being together. The very last line? Not to make a poor pun, but that was just hot. Not the ZOMG SEXY TIEMZ hot (though I'm sure that eventually followed), but it was smoldering and sultry. Their coming together was incendiary and the fire in
( ... )
I read this piece, and liked it a lot, but I couldn't remember the original tale of the Tin Solider. So I looked it up and then re-read your piece and now I can't get the knot out of my stomach, haha.
It was very powerful. I think I might be able to relate to it in a sense, is what? However, something about it is so thickly coated with a sense of humanity and realisticness.
The words used, and the images you painted with them - it was almost like...my brain wasn't able to process it, so my heart had to step in? It just wasn't something logistical, it was emotionally impactful.
I loved the characterization, the build up, the finale. To me, this was the essence of a tragedy. It's been a long time that I've been this moved by words, and I'm not sure if that was your aim...but it happened. I chanced upon here too! I'm really glad I was able to read this though - you've made a fan out of me. [:
I really love the original Tin Soldier story, but it's so very sad! The ending always makes me want to cry. D:
I'm so appreciative of your comment, truly. The fact that I could write something that spoke to you emotionally means a lot and I'm so glad to hear it.
It was definitely my aim to make the reader feel something, so thank you for taking the time to let me know it said something to you. Always happy to know I have a fan! ♥
