I'm rather tired of Moffat as a showrunner/writer - I liked quite a few of the eps he wrote before he took over, but have only summoned up a "well, it was okay" at best for the ones he's written since then.

I really wanted a Companion with a different background this time, too (and her 'specialness' definitely does not count as different, since Amy and River are 'special' too, not to mention Rose). And I was also rolling my eyes so hard they nearly fell out over her Luddite-ness. But perhaps she'll still be different enough to be refreshing.

At least I still really like Matt Smith. Honestly, I might even stop watching if it weren't for him, sad as that would be considering how much I used to love this show!

Oh, maybe you can explain, as I'm guessing it's a UK thing: someone in the TWoP thread said something about just having gotten the joke of the title - do you know what am I missing? I didn't get any joke from it.

Yeah I much prefer the episodes he wrote under RTD to I do the ones he's written as a showrunner.

I really hope that Clara will be different enough to be refreshing. I'm not going to hold my breath (!) but I'll certainly keep watching. Matt Smith has grown on me, though I still prefer Tennant as the Doctor. I'm glad that Amy and Rory aren't in it though because they really, really annoyed me!

I'm not sure if it's a UK thing, rather a play on words. One of the symbols on the TARDIS is the St. John's ambulance logo. So the bells of St. John are the telephone bells of the TARDIS. I'm really not convinced the title was worth all that effort for a play on words (epecially as before the episode I was convinced it'd be something to do with the old nursery rhyme we used to sing at school in the UK [Oranges and Lemons]) but there you go!

I liked Rory, but my feelings on Amy only grew from "Man, she's pointless" to "Well, she'll do, I guess."

Re: the joke - ah, I missed that logo. I, too, kind of wondered if it would have to do with that rhyme (although I only know it from 1984!). But in that case, yes, I agree that the title wasn't really worth it.

I love that!

Haha, so strange you only know it from 1984 - it's part of the playground over here :D

I have not been a fan of the Matt Smith era at all (not Matt himself, just everything else to do with the show) but I thought I would give it another chance since I didnt mind the Xmas special, but so far it just continued to disappoint me :(

Yeah I know what you mean. A big thing that I don't like is Moffatt. As a writer under RTD I enjoyed him, but as a showrunner I have huge issues and that affects the series for me.

Same. Completely. In fact I dont even like Moffatts episodes under RTD, except for The Empty Child & The Doctor Dances. Not just because of my love for Jack, but creepy kid episodes are always pretty brilliant.

I didnt like how when 10 regenerated into 11 it was like a completely new show (one that seems to continue to pander to how Americans like TV) and I absolutely could not stand Amy, Rory and especially River. So I just gave up.

Hoping the episode this week will surprise me though. Fingers crossed!

I did like the bulk of his episodes under RTD but I just really dislike the direction he's done in as show runner.

I really didn't like Amy and Rory, and I did like River, though not what Moffatt ended up doing with her.

What did you think of this week's episode? I thought it was really lacklustre and didn't enjoy it. In fact I got up to feed the cats halfway through and messed around on Twitter.
