Tear was still asking herself what exactly had happened only a week before. Somehow her rather blunt skepticism had led to her standing here, waiting patiently for her it's-not-a-date (but for the sake of argument) we-are-going-there-together sort-of-friend, not-quite-ally. Honestly she didn't know what he was, although he claimed to be an heir to the throne of Kimlasca and her brother's student, besides. Suffice it to say she was waiting for Luke and at the same time wondering why in the world it mattered if she thought he wasn't fit to run a kingdom. She doubted she was the only one who felt this way ( ... )

"Ahaha, I of course must make my rounds first," said Fay, glancing around over the crowd himself. "When I want to find him, I can find him. Somehow, I always know where he is."

He considered for a moment, then followed up with, "Though, I do not know how much he would enjoy being called my 'date.' This evening is going to be fun!"

Tear just shook her head at this, although she was smiling a little. She imagined Fay probably knew at least a little something about everyone here. The image fit her impression of him, anyway. He liked to meddle and busy himself with the problems and concerns of others, didn't he?

Although this comment about finding Kurogane whenever he wanted to... She had never met Fay's friend herself, but she didn't think Fay always knowing where to find him was merely luck. But then, she had heard weirder things, and there was no reason for her to doubt that two people who were very close could sense where the other was.

'Probably about as much as I'd enjoy being called someone else's "date",' she thought silently. It wasn't that she was completely opposed to the idea of being in a relationship with someone else, she just didn't have time to be worrying over things like that, and besides, she wanted to be seen as an equal, not be reduced to something like "so-and-so's girlfriend" or "the woman that-person-over-there likes ( ... )

"Too much?" said Fay, blinking a little at Tear. "Is it possible to have too much fun? What, precisely, would be too much in your opinion?"

He couldn't resist teasing her now.

Tear had never exactly had too much fun. It was an absolutely brilliant question, and Tear wasn't sure how to respond.

"It..." she started to say, but then she stopped, thought for a second more, realized that she really had no idea when that would be.

"It would be..." she sighed, and finally answered, "I suppose it would be when an individual has gone so far as to put himself or someone else in a highly embarrassing or uncomfortable situation, the point where one's better judgment gets impaired, the point where someone has had one too many glasses of wine, one too many plates of food, has exhausted too much energy and will wake up sore or ill in the morning. The point where one inconveniences others because he is too carefree or has done something so ridiculous he can't stand up by means of his own strength and walk out of a place with some level of dignity or confidence. The point where one compromises his responsibilities in favor of self-indulgence... that's when someone has had too much fun..."

A beribboned Mokona hopped onto Tear's shoulder from behind.

"Is Tear having a nice time?"

To anyone in the general vicinity, Tear's face would have gone from normal to beaming in about two seconds flat. Was this really the same person?

"Mokona!" she exclaimed, smiling and petting the fluffy white 'manjuu' carefully so as not to mess up her 'ball attire'.

"I guess it's all right," she admitted, "Are you having fun?"

Mokona was markedly less careful of her outfit as she rolled about on Tear. At least she wasn't not wearing makeup.

"Uh-huh! Friends and food are two of Mokona's favorite things, and Mokona has plenty of both here in one place!"

"Mo... Mokona! Be careful or you'll ruin your ribbons," Tear scolded her half-heartedly. She was really just too cute, and Tear would have liked it even better if there was a whole island full of Mokonas, but alas, one would have to do.

Tear didn't mind the rolling around too much. Honestly, she wasn't very worried about her outfit - she had made sure to find one that wasn't too revealing and that had straps to keep it in place. As for makeup, Tear wasn't wearing any. Other than the possibility of Mokona getting tangled up in Tear's hair, she had little to fear.

"Yes, it does seem that way. The food's outstanding - quite possibly the best I've ever eaten."

Not that she'd remember anyway.

"Didn't anyone bring you Mokona? I remember you were looking for a date."
