ursulav just posted a link to one of my favorite pieces of anthropological writing, in which is demonstrated the utter lack of universality of literature.

That's a somewhat painful piece to read.

In the storyteller's situation I think I would've started earlier to translate Hamlet into the native tongue, but I'm not sure I would've done much better.

All in all, Shakespeare did pretty well. :)
