Sadly, the holocaust/crusades link is a copy of the vonnegut link so I couldn't read the original.
But I don't get how the Holocaust offends muslims. It wasn't muslims who rounded up the jews... I guess I don't get the crusades either, since muslims were the victims there. I suppose if they taught it in a "we christians tried to eliminate the infidels and we failed what a pity" way that would be offensive, but that seems unlikely. So this is pretty weird, imho.
Apparently in some Muslim countries, students aren't taught about the Holocaust, which leads some of them to be offended when their kids are eventually taught something sympathetic that makes Jews look like something other than the bad guys...or something.
1. Appalling. Considering that these two events were among the Biggest Stupidities Ever Committed by Humans Against Fellow Humans...well, the Santayana quote comes to mind. Again.
2. Considering his stated expectations re: the manner of his death and how he actually died(or so I remember from his interview on the Current last year on CBC Radio)...I think he'd call it bad news.
1. The one about ignorance of history leading to its repetition.
2. I strongly suspect he was joking to Anna Maria Tremonti when he said it, but as I recall, he commented about feeling compelled to sue Pall Mall since their cigarettes were advertised as being lethal...and yet he was still alive despite the cancer diagnosis to talk to Tremonti. If he was joking, it was likely one he'd been using elsewhere for some time. Where is that link, now?

2.) What sort of death did Vonnegut say he expected?
