[There's a kid in hand-me-down shorts that are so big on him, they look like pants, but he's not really aware of this, or of his surroundings in general; he's far too absorbed in playing his game. His tongue's poking out the corner of his mouth in concentration.]
[Mail has no more idea what being in the military really involves than he does what being boyfriends does, but it all sounds very important and brave.
He also doesn't know why Elfangor's fur is fluffing, but it's funny, so Mail giggles, partly at that and partly because he never would've expected Elfangor to know about Batman, and pats him on the head, carefully, between his stalk eyes.]
[He twists his stalk eyes back to peer at Matt curiously when he pats him, tilting them in an imitation of a nod.] < From what I understand, it was necessary to fight against... the, ah, 'bad guy' in your world from a position of low public visibility. >
< Prince is a rank, one of the highest, in Andalite military. It has nothing to do with royalty, like the way the term is used on Earth. >
< ... Um. > [All the confusion.] < You had been working on a project to replicate electricity? > [Hopefully that's along the lines of what sort of answer he's looking for.]
< No, I do not have one nearby. My fighter was almost certainly destroyed the last time I was on Earth. >
[Not wanting to cause Matt disappointment compels him to add,] < But I can show you something interesting. It is called morphing. It can look alarming, but don't worry, it doesn't hurt. >
[He pauses to let Matt down off of his back, and then Elfangor morphs to his human form. When he's finished, he holds up a hand to show Matt, smiling and wiggling his fingers.] Cool, right?
[Mail forgets all about the electricity thing, which seems weird and not like the kind of gadgets he meant, like a utility belt or something, preferably with sound effects.
Morphing looks awful, and really cool, and Mail just stares, openmouthed, as Elfangor changes, not realizing until partway through that he's turning into a person.]
Ohmygod. That's awesome. Can you turn into anything you want? Is that how old you are really?
[Feeling a little shy again, now that he sees Elfangor's a grownup.]
