[ this is a bit odd for her. but then, taking care of another person is confusing to her. usually, it is the other way around and she has to put her foot down. now, however, it's difficult to realise what is needed and what would be that unnecessary "over the line" step.

she reaches forward with a cool hand to brush hair from his forehead, giving as genuine a smile as she can muster. ]

Are y-you okay?

[Charles startles slightly at the touch, but forces himself to calm back down, glancing over at her with worn and tired eyes. The gesture was a simple one, but oddly reassuring. Something he had gone so long without. It reminded him of something Raven or Moira might have done in the past. For her benefit, he forces a small smile to his expression, mustering up some of his lately unused playful charm to make it more convincing.]

Headed along the path to get there, at least.

Whyy RNG. I rolled a 2, an 11, and a 12. Any of those strike your fancy? such_a_marvel October 17 2011, 17:34:57 UTC
2? Hello Jean, darling. Your decision if he was just company or more ;) brokenoptimism October 17 2011, 19:23:14 UTC
Charles was one of those people whose reaction to waking up with a warm body beside his own was to roll over and slip his arms around said person, rather than slip out of bed and retreat. He shifted closer to Jean under the covers, sliding them a little further up to cover her shoulders, he propped himself up on one elbow, watching her sleep with soft words on a lighter breath.

"Jean?"

Muahahaha 2 works! Go go, AU Jean! such_a_marvel October 17 2011, 19:30:08 UTC
She stirred slowly, feeling weight shift next to her. Jean didn't bother opening her eyes, just migrating herself closer to the warmth with a burrowing snuggle. A small smirk played at her lips, and when she heard her name, she turned her face up, cracking one eyelid open.

"Hi." The word was more sigh than speech, and she slid an arm around his middle, urging him back down toward the mattress. "I'd ask what time it is, but whatever answer you give me will get a resounding too early."

He complied with very little reluctance, comfortably stretched out on his side as he slipped an arm around her back. Her warmth was a welcome improvement on the slight chill of morning. He smiled, a light smile still tinted with the weariness of sleep.

"I have little doubt." He made a point of not looking, the clock behind them blocked by his body. "Good morning, Jean." His words were murmured, whisper soft, with a light kiss pressed to her forehead. A morning cuddle was always far more welcome than awkwardly exchanged glances or hangover induced mumbles.

"Good morning," she replied, the words muffled as she did her best to hide her face from the light coming in the window. When she realized anything less than shoving her head under the pillows wasn't going to take care of it, she propped herself up on her elbow, squinting. With a flick of the other hand and as much concentration as she could muster, she shot the heavy curtains closed on every window in the room.

"Ahhh." Pleased with muted light filtering in, Jean settled against Charles once more, letting her fingers trail along his spine. "Did you sleep okay?" She let her head rest on the pillow, leveling her eyes to his.

Jean's powers had always held an impressed fascination for Charles. He watched the curtains shut with relief on his tired eyes. The relative dark that settled was a welcome change from the sunbeams that had woken him. His hand trailed up along her skin to smooth through her tousled hair, watching her with a smile.

"Mn, well, the company I woke up with was certainly an improvement to the sleep. How did you fare, luv?"

Her teeth caught her bottom lip as she smiled, something demure to the expression. "Can't say I was expecting to be company here..." Her eyes cast down, away from his for a moment, then moved back, the color rising in her cheeks likely visible despite the low light.

"I slept like a rock." Jean stretched out like a cat, then sighed, smirking at Charles. "Not that I had much choice in the matter..."

"You needed your rest." There is amusement but also something softer in his words. He did whatever he could to keep Jean's mind rested and quiet when he could. She deserved the chance to be able to sleep without the voices of others' thoughts whispering away in her head. He brushed some of the hair out of her eyes with a soft movement. Everything still held that slow, lazy haze of morning sleep.

"I was exhausted," she agreed, her face tipping toward his hand a little as he brushed hair from her eyes. Jean watched his face for a moment, then brought a hand up, tracing the line between his temple and his jaw.

"Should this be weird? I... feel like it should be weird..." Jean's eyebrow ticked up, a hint of confusion in her eyes. Her mind started wandering to 'is it weird it's not weird?' and any other amalgam of the question, but she forced it back, just to be in the moment instead of miles away.

With a shrug, she snuggled in closer. "What are your plans for the day?"

"It is no more odd than either of us makes it." His brows knit together faintly, brushing the back of his fingers along her cheek. As unexpected as all this had been, Charles felt no regret about the situation. His smile was reassuring and relaxed as she moved closer. Perhaps it was a little weird for them to be in this position, a teacher and his student. This was not the sort of action befitting of a mentor.

"I should check on the others at some point, but that can wait for later."

"Yeah, and for right now, I'm not going to worry about it." Later would likely be a different story. Right then, Jean was just going to lie there, enjoying the warmth next to her, and the soft touch of his hand.

The smile on his face was echoed on her own, and she relaxed. How it had happened, Jean couldn't really put the pieces together on. It went from training her to keep her mind quiet to something else... She put it to the intensity of having someone else in her mind, someone who understood. Someone who'd been there.

Whatever the case had been, when her brain had wandered completely away from training while Charles was very present inside of her mind... Unexpected and wholly welcome results occurred, apparently.

Jean raised a hand and ran her fingers through his hair, the calm in her present in every motion and the expression on her face. "Good news is, it's quiet."

Charles gave a light chuckle of contentment as he watched Jean's far more relaxed movements. It was both reassuring and relieving to know that at least something of what they had done the day before had helped her. At least for now she seemed to have control once more.

"That is very good news," He smiled, moving his hand to rest over hers. For once, he truly had no part int the quiet calm within her mind. She was doing it on her own. It filled him with a sense of pride. There were few students he worked as closely or as long with as Jean. He liked to think favoritism had nothing to do with it. She needed him, and that was what he was there for.

The events of the night before had been an unexpected happening. A sudden, unforeseen turn in the intensity of their training sessions. "You are getting stronger every day. Soon you won't need my help at all."

"I doubt that," Jean said, both with pure honesty and a bit of flirtation behind it. "I wouldn't have come this far without you." Her tone was appreciative, thankful. No one had been able to reach her like Charles had, and no one had the patience to try. Then again, it wasn't like her telepathy was a common occurrence. She was currently curled up to likely the most powerful telepath in the world.

She pressed herself into him, her arm sliding down to once again wrap around his torso, and she kissed him softly. There was a bit of hesitation, unlike the night previous, but it wasn't out of questioning herself. She was more testing the waters.
