[ He heaved a sigh, mostly to himself, as he grasped the edge of the hood. Finding the lever he needed he eased the hood up on the DB5, fingers tracing the edges as he frowned to himself-- they should have taken Evelyn; she had been the far more reliable bet due to several years of use, rather than the new Aston which he was only recently becoming acquainted with. Hooking the small rod to keep the hood propped open he rolls up his sleeves a bit-- no need to mess up the cardigan now-- and leans forward over the edge of the bonnet a bit trying to get an grip on what exactly had caused the breakdown

Charles--[ Erik sticks his head out the window, frowning from the glare of the awkwardly angled, evening sun overhead. They had managed to drive as far as the more rural, rolling countryside-- not that any of it holds much interest for Erik; the whole idea had been decidedly ridiculous; but indulging the telepath was beginning to become rather second nature to him, and he had begrudgingly given in because a road-trip wouldn't be all that bad, surely? At least it had been uneventful, barring the quick return trip, back to the Westchester house to fetch a set of bags that had been left in the entrance hall, from just outside of the suburb. Despite the late hour, the roof is down, and Erik's sunglasses have been gradually slipping down to perch on the tip of his nose, from where they are removed irritably. ] Get back in the car.
[ While the sight of Charles' attempt to take charge of the unfortunate engine break down was simultaneously amusing and endearing (particularly the car's sudden emission of the cloud of some sort of unhealthy

[ He peers at Erik for an embarrassed moment before adjusting the bonnet and easing it back into a closed position. Dusting his hands off again-- though they don't feel properly clean anymore-- he steps around the car and pops the drivers side door open again. Easing into his seat he presses down on the clutch and slides the gear stick into neutral, allowing the car to roll of it's own free will with only the breaks still functioning on the wheelbase. Since they would have to rely on Erik's abilities to power the car and not the engine, he removes his hand from shifter to suppress the impulse to use it once they actually get moving. Both hands curled around the steering wheel he flashes a half smile to Erik, obviously a bit abashed at the car having stalled out. ] Probably should've taken Evelyn, she's far more reliable.
[ At least, he could say that now, seeing as she had never broken down on him in the middle of nowhere. Though, it's far less a hardship with Erik present. ]
I thought this one was more--in vogue for the occasion, hmm? [ A lick of sarcasm underlies his comment, as they take off from the position pulled over on the side of the road; overlooking nothing more than endless sprawling farmlands-- too dully rural, in Erik's opinion; nothing other than grass and possibly the odd sheep. He favored the city over these dramatic landscapes, though he could tell that Charles had wanted some respite from the endless time spent in the house amongst the mutant brood. ] At least this way you'll let me drive.
[ And he does prefer being the one in control, particularly on the longer sorts of trips; and now he keeps the car on the tarmac entirely by his magnetic persuasion alone; shoving it forward easily. ] Anywhere in particular you were planning on taking us? Or--[ A mutedly suspicious glance over at the telepath, still with that humour beneath it. ] are we entirely lost?
This way I've got to let you drive, [ He corrects with a glance given to Erik, a small smug smile touching his lips. He was just teasing, however, because it wouldn't be the first time Erik had driven; just happened to be the first on this trip. Besides, Charles liked the little bit of control it gave him, and teasing Erik was generally fun to begin with. ]
Well we need to get to the next town to get the car fixed-- and one cannot be lost if we don't have a destination; which we don't. Not really, anyway. [ A little eyebrow raise as he slouched back in his seat a bit since Erik mainly had control of the entire thing. ] Just a adventure.
