[Agatha, meanwhile, has never been to a carnival. She's trying to take everything in, wide eyed. There's music! And little lights everywhere! And people shouting! She doesn't know what to do first. Partly because she doesn't know what most of this stuff is.]

[Also, she neither seemed surprised nor awkward that you'd bid on her. Friends go on dates all the time, right? :D?]

[Edgar's been to carnivals-- sometimes even on what he's thinking of as actual dates-- so he's not as wide-eyed and delighted as she is. He has his hands in his suit pockets (wearing a suit to a carnival? Insta-win) and is gazing around the place distractedly.]

Oh, alright. [She doesn't seem to really be listening to you.]

What's that? [She's pointing excitedly to what appears to be a viking ship. That swings backwards and forwards. That--oh dear, it actually goes upside down. She seems enthralled.]

[He looks over at it.] Well. It's a big swinging boat. You sit in it and scream and so on. [Being a St Ives boy, he saw carnivals in town every summer of his childhood.] It'll probably make you throw up.

Let's go ride it! [She's almost bloodthirstily exuberant.]

[Oh god, with his inner ear issues, one trip upside down means he can't walk in a straight line for about half an hour. He totally won't tell her that, though. Brilliant way to start the date.]

Are you sure? I've heard that they sometimes spin out of control and everyone gets thrown off and dies. [Yay for transparent lies!]

Really? How exciting! [She looks to be on the fence as to whether she even believes you, and clearly doesn't care either way. If you want out of this, Edgar, you're actually going to tell her what's wrong.]

[He's pretty resigned to doing whatever she wants him to do anyway. Manly dating pride! And he's kind of used to not being able to walk in a straight line, sob.]

[The boat starts to swing. Agatha turns to you cheerily and notices that you don't seem to be sharing in the joy.] Is something, like, wrong...?

[And now the boat swings in earnest!]

[Fuck, never mind, Edgar will just be closing his eyes now. See, the brain does this wonderful thing of correcting the orientation of one's vision in accordance to which way up it thinks it is. Edgar's little malfunction, unfortunately, means that this doesn't quite... work out.

It's just better to close his eyes, okay.]
