Ben Lockwood | werewolf OC | no smut please, OTAelse werewolf_hacker March 7 2013, 20:19:43 UTC
[[Starter is for inwhichwar, but anyone can jump in here.]]

[They've finally gotten Kati out of that horrible hospital and into one that doesn't make Ben feel manifestly unwelcome. This hospital is more concerned with its patients' well-being than whatever discomfort the staff might feel at the advent of a werewolf slave--and Ben's absence would clearly adversely affect Kati's well-being, so he gets to stay with no bullshit whining or threats from anyone. There's even a cot in the room for him; the other place made him sleep in the chair, or the floor.

The needles and tubes are gone, much to his relief. It's mostly a matter of surgery, and recovery, and more surgery, at this point. And Ben's become quite the expert masseuse, as he's learned the best way to break down inner scar tissue and make muscles slide against each other the way they should rather than binding up and causing yet more stress in the bad kind of feedback loop.]

[Which is a godsend, because the strain of her injuries and the measures being taken to repair them, coupled with the fact that she's still damned near immobilized, mean that more or less everything hurts to one degree or another. Where she would be without Ben, she really doesn't know.]

You're like stone back here, Mistress. [Ben's fingers work at a recalcitrant knot in her thigh, and he growls.] I can't wait to find the guys who planted that bomb so I can eat them.

[Kati hisses through her teeth, fighting the urge to clench her jaw. More tension won't exactly help her, after all.]

I am just glad they have not come after us yet. We have enough to worry about.

[It's something he worries about, to be honest. He's not invincible or even bulletproof and taking him out wouldn't be that difficult for someone who knew what they were about.

However, he's armed (violating hospital regulations, but what they don't know won't hurt them--that's why it's called a concealed weapon), and he is a weapon, so it's the best they have right now. He takes refuge in bravado.] They can try. And then they will find out what a very bad idea that is.

[The knot in her thigh finally relaxes under his determined fingers, and he moves up to the small of her back.]

Ach. My big bad wolf.

[She can't help flinching a little as he goes to work on her back; the tension is especially bad there, even with the nerve damage. The surgeon is talking about trying to correct that, and she's been debating whether an incision in an area that already hurts like a bastard most of the time is really a good idea.

Hell if she knows.]

[He takes it easy on her back until it starts relaxing, and he winces at the livid pink scars.] At least these guys aren't talking about taking your leg. One less worry.

[Kati grimaces and sighs, relaxing under Ben's hands.]

Small favors. Whether it will be any more useful than a missing one when all this is over . . .

[She's going to be crippled for life no matter how well things go; she knows that, and fears it even though it's inevitable.]

[He shrugs a little.] I was on a cane for decades after a Hellhound ate my leg. It didn't slow me down too much. You'll have to learn a new balance point, and how to use whatever they give you to help you get around as a weapon.

I had a sword in my cane. It was pretty cool, actually. And a blade doesn't run out of ammo.

[Kati makes an amused sort of noise.]

Ach, I never gave much thought to being the swashbuckling type before.

I didn't either, until it happened. Tell you what, though, when being underestimated is a weapon in your arsenal, being on a cane really sells the whole "helpless baby seal" thing. [His grin is not at all nice.]

And then they're surprised as hell when you hand their ass to them.

Guri trained me. I'll train you. [A grimace.] Once this is... better. I know it hurts, Mistress, but you need to try to relax. Tensing up makes it worse.

Mmmph.

[Kati makes a conscious effort to relax, breathing deep. It helps to know that Ben will never, ever hurt her on purpose.]

I know that you are right, Volchok. It's just hard to make myself keep it in mind, you understand?

Yes, Mistress, been here, done this. Not this extensive, mind you-- [The scars on her hurt him, almost physically.] --but it was no picnic when the Hellhound used my leg as a chew toy and then later when that owner bastard decided to replace the calf muscle wholesale.

But you gotta make a conscious effort to relax this shit. And if you can't, we'll get some painkillers up in here. [His mouth twists.] I don't like seeing you in pain, Mistress.

Ach. My wolfy Ben. I know.

[She takes another deep breath and lets it out slowly, working on relaxing.]

Muscle relaxers probably are not so bad an idea. I will have to learn to work around being slower than I should be.

I got your back. [Even if he didn't so such a hot job of protecting her from the damn car bomb in the first place.] And the muscle relaxers should be a stopgap--I hope--while you heal. [He's got a lively horror of the medications being a permanent fixture. Addiction is still a terrifying bugbear to him, more so since the experience in the brothel.]

[She can understand why, although for her part she's a hell of a lot more willing to entertain them being permanent if they will make her feel even a little bit less useless. handicapped by pain is not a good look for her.]

I know you will keep me safe. I trust you, Ben.
