Loki Laufeyson || MCU/Norse mythology || OTA mischiefandice February 25 2013, 02:15:35 UTC
[absolutely OTA, just bear in mind that he is -mostly- a psychotic bastard. So probably no fluff, unless they already have established CR, I suppose. (seriously though , who has fluff in their no-no things?). Everything else is game.]

Loki was not hiding in the library. Absolutely not. He was the God of Mischief, the Destroyer of Worlds, the bastard son of Odin, he did not hide. However, he was also abysmally bored by social events. After all, there were only so many pranks one could pull in a single evening. So he had, wisely, retreated to the library, praying to be left alone until the evening was over and he could go back to plotting evil schemes.

Pandora slipped into the library with almost a sense of relief. After all, in her experience, other people tended to avoid libraries. Well, one person's hell, another's sanctuary. Once the door slid silently shut behind her, she let herself have a moment to sink in the cool dark of the room, the heady scent of paper and ink, the-

Vague outline of a person in the corner. Pandora ducked behind a shelf. Maybe he hadn't seen her. If she were lucky.

Loki sighed heavily as he heard the door creak open. Typical. He stepped back into the shadows, hoping to be able to hide until whoever this was decided to leave. He could easily guess that he had been spotted still, when the newcomer ducked behind a shelf. A girl, as far as he could tell, and apparently seeking asylum as well. She was unlikely to bother him, at least.

“There is no need to hide,” he spoke up, his voice low but not unkind.

This decision was unnecessarily difficult. She was very much aware of how out of place she was, and of the general risk of being caught. With little knowledge of the culture she'd stumbled upon, she could easily be executed if they turned out to be unfriendly, right? But, well, as was often the case with Pandora, curiosity won out before impulse control could kick in.

"Are you certain? You seemed to be a moment ago." Though she stepped out from behind the shelves, she didn't entirely give it up. Her shoulder rested against the wood, hand still obscured by books. Her gaze flicked quickly to the wall of books behind him, before returning to the owner of the voice. If she were to miss the opportunity to explore all these new texts, she'd be pretty put out.

“I am quite certain,” he drawled, coldly. “I have seen you.” He bristled a little at the insinuation, drawing himself tall and glaring at her. “I was not hiding. There was merely nothing of interest for me outside so I elected to stay here instead.” That was only partly a lie. Loki was not scared of social gatherings (of all things) but he found them abysmally boring, especially when he had to behave.

He looked at her, raising an eyebrow. “What is your excuse?”

"In the dark? Seems counterproductive. Well, I suppose you could be photosensitive." The fact was, Pandora wasn't always as oblivious as she appeared. Though she wasn't trying to needle him. She was simply buying time to come up with a good lie. "Um. I got lost?" Maybe half a lie.

"I suppose I could," Loki replies, testily. He isn't, but he does not especially want to explain why he was hiding there in the first place.

He tilts his head to the side, calmer now, his magic tingling as she replies. It makes him chuckle, pleased. You cannot lie to the God of Lies. "Did you, now?"

Only half a lie, because she wasn't exactly lost when she decided to enter the library. Still, in for a penny, in for a pound. His rapid mood change made her cautious, however. Maybe she should try another route.

"I'm Pandora, by the way."

Oh, but lying by omission very much counts, for Loki. And cautious she should be, indeed. He narrows his eyes at her, suspicious if not unkind. The name doesn't sound familiar though Loki knows most of the people present and their families. He may not enjoy it but he has to play the game of politics, once in a while. “Who invited you?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.

"Tyche." There's all that brilliance and none of the forethought showing again. Why else would she chalk this up to a fickle Greek goddess of fortune? "Not going to introduce yourself, then?"

Loki rolls his eyes. "That sounds like her."

It's not actually such a bad excuse, all in all. Tyche would be unpredictable enough to invite people nobody ever heard of before. He grins, slowly.

"Would you like to guess?"

There's a blink, slow and cautious. "I'd really rather not. As much fun as it could be, people generally get upset when I guess wrong. Because, clearly, I should know who everyone I've never met likes and dislikes."

Loki only grins wider.

"I promise I won't. Come on. I have to be the God of something..."

This is really only getting him a look that could only be described as dry. A race of aliens that fancy themselves gods. Well, she'd seen stranger things lately.

"Unless you're the god of peer pressure, I haven't enough information on naming conventions to guess."

Loki's nose scrunches up in distaste. "Peer pressure? I certainly hope that there isn't a divinity devoted to that," he replies, wry.

He looks at her down his nose, but relents. "Mischief, if you must know. Lies. Everything that isn't quite honourable." He chuckles. "Occasionally fire, or ice, depending who you ask."
