Clara hadn't seen Alaric in... what was it now? Four months? Six months? What did it matter? She'd gotten the call yesterday, just for coffee, of course, but coffee would mean dessert. Although, perhaps dessert wasn't what she was excited for.

She hadn't seen him nearly six months! She was excited to say hello, to wave and grin and have a proper conversation with someone properly real. She really needed to step away from the computer sometimes.

Feet kicked up on the chair across from her outside the cafe, she watched the face of her watch, counting the ticking seconds. He'd said two, right? Well, it was nearly one-fifty-nine. He'd have to show up soon, or else be scolded by the fiery brunette.

Sometimes, getting to know humanity would be too much. There would either be way too much for Proteus to process, or they were just too brutal to handle. It didn't mean she regretted taking matters into her own hands to escape from being kept against her will to cause problems, instead of solving them. Her intelligence wasn't created to do mindless labor.

Sitting on the curb, she felt slightly troubled as she felt the sting of the bruises on her arm. This world was crazy, brutal, and dangerous at times.

Being in a human body, especially in that of a child, it left her vulnerable and afraid at times. Proteus didn't even strike at the man who stank of alcohol. She'll never forget that smell, or all the details of that encounter.

Perhaps if she sat here and waited a bit for the pain to fade a little, she would be "right as rain", as the expression goes.
